Vendor pic is way too saturated imo compared to what my eyes see.

Omg. This is lovely! I personally think it looks nice in your photo then the vendor photo. Congratulations!

Who is the vendor @voce ?
Stating that helps this thread in deciphering vendors photos for all our future purchases :)

I think this heart is lovely. It’s unfortunate that going dark in direct sun is common. It be so much easier if the dang material just wouldn’t do that!

The vendor is Africa Gems. I thought experienced members might already be able to tell from the photo style.

I've only bought spinels from the vendor before. I returned a lavender one that had too much gray to my eyes but kept the red spinel I've bought before. I think I'm keeping this heart because it's hard to find a heart in a red/pink color that's cut nicely. I find for all the spinels I've tried, the vendor pictures look saturated compared to my pictures and what I see with my eyes.

I think oversaturation of color in vendor photos is common in these lightbox type pictures, but was willing to try the since because of the excellent 30 day return policy Africa Gems has.

Following on from the garnet, which I was reasonably happy with because I knew it would be a lot darker than depicted, I decided to buy this mint tourmaline from Jeff Davies. It's still showing as available on his Etsy page but I think he just hasn't updated it.

In overcast daylight it looks like his photo and I have no complaints.

My plan is to set it into JuliaB's French cut classique moissanite ring.

The JuliaB setting I want:

Did you ever get the JuliaB setting? I was wondering if it lives up to the Etsy photos.

My photos. Rubies are even harder to capture on my phone fban emeralds. It's red in real life and comparable to my ruby ring. Spinels are definitely vibrant and redder than the pink it's giving off in these photos. IMO her video/photo of the spinels are very accurate.

These are from Brad at the Gem Trader. As usual I am very happy with his color depiction. Grey spinels cushion cuts all by same cutter from same rough.

Fantapanda how happy are you with the color? Does the stone sparkle? Or is it more a glow? I was eyeing stones from the same show but that gem show lighting makes me nervous and I realize she can't just run outside to get different light.

Has anyone purchased from Multicolour before, and did you feel that their pictures and color descriptions (Light, Medium, Light, etc) were accurate?

Yes, their photos were extremely accurate. I've purchased two spinels, a lavender heart that @2Neezers posted in the "Somebody's gotta buy this" thread, and a Mahenge pink spinel trillion. The downside was that I didn't expedite shipping, and airmail took a long time.

I 100% trust their descriptions as well.

I have purchased a few stones from Multicolour and find their descriptions very accurate. When you’re looking at the description page for an item, you can click on “Download Identification Report” for even more detailed info on the color description, like below.

I'm very pleased with the sapphire and it definitely does sparkle. It's more bottom heavy than my other sapphire from a Sri Lankan vendor, but the color and saturation is better than my other sapphire.

I absolutely agree about the lighting at the show. But her video showing the color of the stone matches closely to the color of the stone in real life for me, actually less purple than in her video and more true blue in real life.

FWIW, the price of the sapphire was reasonable to me and cheaper than say sapphires from another IG vendor, plus Tandi sent them all out to me for 2-day delivery which is AMAZZZING.

Thanks so much for all that info! How do her prices compare to the Sri Lanka vendors?

I think her prices are reasonable honestly and less to deal with than wiring money and waiting for the gems to ship from overseas. I can see that the SL vendors have access to a lot of different ranges of sapphires. For example the sapphire (heated) she got for me at the show was about $1200/carat. I don't have a comparable sapphire from a Sir Lankan vendor but have been quoted around $1000 - $1,150/carat for a "vivid royal blue" sapphire (heated) from a popular vendor here. Another Sri Lankan vendor I've purchased from for a "cornflower blue" sapphire (unheated) was around $400+/carat.

Thanks so much @mercoledi that is really helpful. Her lighting is closer to my latitude too so I feel like I have a better idea of what colors will look like.

Chrysoberyl center, Burmese spinels and Merelani mint garnets, and the smallest stones are Russian green demantoid garnets.

0.45 ct cuprian tourmaline from Starlanka. Sold as paraiba but I didn’t ask for origin so I’ll just call it cuprian. A pleasant experience.
