Anniversaries are special and celebrating your years of love and commitment is wonderful. There are traditional gifts assigned to each year being celebrated. In fact, there are more than just traditional, we also have modern gifts, floral gifts, jewelry gifts, and the list goes on. These guidelines may seem old-fashioned, and if you are inspired to be more original go for it! These gifts listed are all tied to the symbology of the items and how that relates to love and relationships. The traditional gifts become more durable the longer the relationship lasts, just as the love endures.
PAPER – 1st ANNIVERSARY
This anniversary may be paper and that may seem pretty flimsy, but it is also hopeful and starts a foundation. When many couples first set off on their marriage adventure they don’t always have much money to spare. The Paper anniversary can be extravagant or more simple and still be lovely. Some great ideas for gifts that fall under the category of paper include:
Stocks – counting on your financial futures building together.
Writing a Poem and/or Song – a display of your love that they can fold and keep forever is super romantic.
Tickets – travel or a show equals an adventure together.
A Map – a large map that you can mark either the places you want to go or the places that you visit together.
A great diamond and a GIA/IGI certificate.
WOOD – 5th ANNIVERSARY
Wood is getting a little stronger, the big bad wolf would have a harder time blowing this house down. It may not be brick yet, but it’s more secure and stable. Like the roots of a tree that have begun to stretch and hold as the tree grows strong. Some great ideas for gifts that fall under the category of wood include:
Planting trees – putting down roots, permanence.
Bookshelves – as you grow your home and/or family, you will want to expand your knowledge.
Home Improvements – a new deck would be fun, but making your house a home is always lovely.
A trip to the Redwoods – go and walk within the trees that are far older than you are. You may feel like your life is short in comparison, but there you are making the conscious choice to spend your lives together.
A diamond in a wooden box will always fit the bill.
TIN/ALUMINUM – 10th ANNIVERSARY
Stronger still, tin/aluminum may not initially seem like the picture of romance. It is more durable, won’t rust, and it will remain shiny for years to come. Some great ideas for gifts that fall under the category of tin/aluminum include:
A Car – it’s pretty on the nose, but fun and memorable all the same.
Appliances – this is not the gift for every person, it is not innately romantic to get a person a dryer. If it really helps though, it really helps!
A Flight – go on a fun getaway!
Something Engraved – we have a super cool tin engraved image of my favorite of our wedding pictures. It’s beautiful and romantic.
A diamond in a tin box. I know it’s a stretch, but we love diamonds!
While these are just the first ten years, we have a quick guide for you for 1-60 that you can keep. Once you are past 10 years though, you probably have a pretty good idea of what your partner likes and what would mean the most to them.
