What better way to celebrate our September birthdays than with a 43.16-carat sapphire and diamond ring by Van Cleef and Arpels? Bonhams Hong Kong has announced an exclusive sale of eight jewels including this rare Ceylon sapphire ring.
Jacques Arpels traveled to Sri Lanka to acquire the stone in 1969. The exceptional sapphire was subsequently mounted in platinum with two pear-shaped diamonds. “What is particularly exciting is that it’s incredibly unusual to know precisely where a stone comes from. Here we have documented evidence that the sapphire was selected by Jacques Arpels himself,” said Matthew Girling, chief executive of Bonhams.
Bonhams will offer the ring in addition to a necklace with 47 carats of matched emeralds and a 107-carat ruby and diamond bracelet circa 1936 (also by Van Cleef & Arpels) at its November 23, 2012, sale in Hong Kong. Visit Bonhams to learn more about the sale, titled “Eight Exceptional Jewels from a Private Collection.”
