Constance Wu has been in the film industry since 2006, but really exploded onto the scene in 2015 when she was cast as a lead in the ABC sitcom Fresh Off the Boat. We’ve noticed her style and we are fans. Constance Wu’s birthday is March 22, so we are going to check out the looks of this birthday girl.
Constance’s family are Taiwanese-Americans, and she herself was born in Richmond, Va. She jumped into acting at a young age and during high school, she took part in a program at Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. She later graduated from State University of New York at Purchase‘s Conservatory of Theatre Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting in 2005.
We thought she was a funny gal but really stopped to follow her looks after she took a lead in Crazy Rich Asians. CRA was decadent and filled with incredible eye candy, while still relaying an entertaining story. The jewelry in this movie is unbelievable, and a great way to convey exactly how “crazy rich” they really were. Constance Wu’s character Rachel, however, is the outlier in that she is not wealthy and is thrust into a world that she is not prepared to navigate. Luckily, Rachel was a fast learner in CRA, and Constance Wu has really elevated her own red carpet looks.
At the premiere of Crazy Rich Asians, Constance sparkled in a Ralph and Russo Couture dress that was covered in about 200,000 Swarovski crystals. She matched that dress with about 90 carats worth of Lorraine Schwartz diamonds. In direct contrast, she wore a nude Vera Wang gown to the 2019 Golden Globes and matched it with a diamond choker. Both looks were to die for in their own way, and we love that she really knows how to accessorize her wardrobe.
Not afraid to wear what makes her feel good, she knows what speaks to her own taste. I hope that in that, we can all take a cue from Constance Wu. For the 2019 Met Gala, she interpreted “camp” with a roaring twenties flapper style look, with some additional va va voom that would make Betty Boop jealous. The joy of the gala is that the theme is open to interpretation and as such the style varies wildly. I am not sure that I would call her choice of look camp, but I would for sure call it stunning!
We wish Constance Wu a happy birthday, may she continue to sparkle for many years to come. We look forward to her future works, including the next two movies in the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy!
What looks were your favorite? We’d love to hear about them!
