Popular Diamond Shapes - January 2023

Round diamonds continue to be the most popular shape of diamond on the market making up 77.99% (popularity) and increasing by 0.58% in popularity since December 2022. Oval continues to sit in second place making up 5.29% (popularity) but decreasing by 6.37% in popularity compared to last month. Cushion continues to sit in third place three months in a row, making up 4.79% (popularity) and decreasing in value by 4.96% (popularity). Emerald continues to sit in fourth place three months in a row and radiant has made a comeback to the Top 5 Popular Diamond Shapes since November 2022.

Average Price Per Carat For a Round Diamond - January 2023

This January the average price per carat for a round diamond of 1 – 1.19 carat G color VS1 clarity is $8,541 compared to December 2022 which was an average price of $8,588. The average price per carat for round diamonds has decreased by 0.55% since last month.

We advise consumers to keep in mind that cut quality and vendor services such as upgrades and returns can make a significant difference in the price point when shopping for loose diamonds.
