What defines topaz? Beautiful but durable.
Topaz is pleochroic, meaning that the gemstone can show different colors in different crystal directions.

Topaz has an exceptionally wide color range that, besides brown, includes various tones and saturations of blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink, and purple. Colorless topaz is plentiful, and is often treated to give it a blue color. From colorless to rich blues – you’re bound to find a topaz that suits you.
Topaz is listed as an 8 on the Mohs Scale of mineral hardness. Due to its strength, topaz can be worn in all sorts of everyday jewelry from a bracelet to a pendant necklace.
Topaz deposits are found in the United States, Brazil, Myanmar (Burma), Namibia, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Russia, and China.
The most famous topaz is a colorless topaz originally thought to be a diamond. It is a 1680-carat stone known as the "Braganza Diamond" set in the Portuguese Crown Jewels.

Citrine is quartz that comes in a range of Fall-like colors ranging from yellow to a darker orange. Citrine is the go-to choice of stone for Fall.
Citrine is listed as a 7 on the Mohs Scale of mineral hardness. Just like topaz, citrine can be worn in all sorts of everyday jewelry from cocktail rings to earrings.
In Madagascar and the Russian Ural Mountains. The majority of citrine, or amethyst that has been heated, originates in Brazil. Some gems from Bolivia can contain both the colors of amethyst and citrine in the same crystal.
Ametrine is a natural type of quartz also known as trystine or by its trade name bolivianite. Amethyst and citrine are mixed together, boasting shades of purple and yellow or orange. Ametrine is mined in Bolivia.
