Just like many markets, the diamond market has changed dramatically amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. There is still a lot of speculation on how it will emerge and in what matter. The diamond prices are still dropping in the higher carat sizes and possibly showing some stability in the lower.

This May the average diamond price per carat for a round diamond of 1 – 1.4 carat G color VS1 clarity is $7610.  The current average and lowest prices per carat prices are shown in PriceScope’s diamond price charts by carat and their corresponding color and clarity.
Keep in mind that cut quality and vendor services such as upgrades and returns can make a difference in the price point when shopping.

Retail Diamond Prices For April 2020
It seems everyone has been interested in the diamond prices so I finally got my self to put something together. The diamond price charts and info is based on round diamonds and the retail value as they are in our database.

As the diamond market considers its options during the industry-wide lockdown, manufacturers in India are planning a freeze on rough imports. The move has precedent. Back in 2008, as financial markets collapsed, India imposed a one-month moratorium on rough buying.

Slight Overall Rise in Polished Prices for April, Some Drops Among One-Carat Rounds
Polished diamond prices for April were largely in line with last month, with only small fluctuations and little in the way of dramatic movement. The majority of both rounds and fancies remained unchanged. Movement across the board was a mix of modest rises and falls, rarely above three per cent.

Conventional wisdom holds that trading in the diamond industry should have come to a complete stop in April. This is largely true, but there are some exceptions. Polished diamond trading has continued, though at a much reduced level. Prices naturally declined, down a low single digit.
