My Favorite Antique Rings: Emeralds, Rubies and Sapphires

Fabulous collection! Love the snake - the detail in the diamond setting in amazing.

Your photos are excellent - sharp with natural looking colour. Could you share your technique?

Thank you! Pics are just from an IPhone 11 Pro. Nothing special! I do have a macro lens for ultra close ups that I bought from Amazon - it attaches right to your phone and takes amazing pics ;)2

Thank you. I guess it's the macro lens that makes the difference.

Wow, LOVE every single one of them!

Your collection is exquisite!

Thanks! That is actually a Victorian pink and white paste half hoop band, not rubies/diamonds.

What an absolutely stunning collection, thanks for sharing!

Wow, love the color and the diamond details! I'm curious - to me, these look like pink sapphires. I know the distinction isn't always necessarily clear, so I'm wondering why you're placing them in the ruby camp. It's beautiful either way!

Hi, they are definitely in the ruby camp. The glowy photos maybe make it look more pinkish but the official cert has them 100% as rubies :)

I love the sculptural detail on your new ring. And the glowing stones. Your collection of antique jewellery is museum-worthy - it wouldn't be out of place at the V&A.

That’s so kind, thank you!! I do love the antiques :)

Thanks for sharing your amazing collection. So fun to watch sparkling videos of these beauties on your insta!

Here is my most unique and rare piece: AGL certified Unheated sapphire with opalescence. The effect is mesmerizing and colors change with the light. Over 4 carats. I bought the sapphire originally as an antique Edwardian stick pin and then had it I mounted and sent to AGL to confirm what I suspected. Then Enhoerning Jewelry set it into a Georgian inspired rose cut diamond setting.

My favourite. This started me on my “opalescent sapphire” journey and to think I never knew such a stunning gem existed.
magical.

A new to me really special one: Antique Georgian Dendritic Agate (treelike pattern) and old mine cut diamond large Witch’s heart ring. Witch’s hearts originally were used to ward off evil spirits, but by the 18th century they were use mainly as a love token to symbolize the person has been “bewitched” with love. I wish I knew who this one belonged to so long ago. ❤️❤️

I love this so much! Saw this fleetingly on your Insta earlier on and was going to go back to have a better look. The heart motif is one of my favourite in antiques, and the witch's heart is just extra special (also alas so hard to find). The agate pattern is amazing!!!

Here’s one I haven’t shared yet: Antique Victorian (hallmarks for 1891) 18k gold five stone cushion cut blue sapphire half hoop. These amazing sapphires are a very saturated but deeper blue indoors, but get it outside or bright light and it comes to life with a sleepy, velvety Kashmir-like appearance. I cannot stop staring at it! I will be sending to a lab to know for sure, but it appears to be Unheated. I’m 95% sure the origin is the famed Pailin mines in Cambodia. Blocky, milky blue bands and also deep red Pyrochlore are 2 of the most important clues to the origin that I found. Fingers crossed the lab has same findings. 92C329AB-B181-47BC-9D3F-B1245F7EFCC4.jpeg23EAD0C7-C715-4A6B-8CD4-D7F81507676B.jpeg1798088E-2CAF-4978-B794-8B679B9FA1D5.jpegAE65DC05-F0F5-48F5-9469-E7C5D703EA62.jpeg

And a really exciting find late last year: Mega Antique Victorian over 10 carat Unheated Burma blue star sapphire surrounded by HUGE old mine cut diamonds in silver cut down collets setting over 18k gold. The star sapphire combined with the huge mine cuts is a stellar combo, worthy of maybe a queen back in the day? So curious who would have owned this.

Queenly then and queenly now! Another amazing find!

Wow! That's a dream star sapphire. That combination of translucency and rich blue body colour is what everyone looks for, but very few find. The yellow gold collet sets it off perfectly. Then there's the diamonds...
