À l'esprit ouvert—realistic setting options for my warm, wonky old cut?

I posted about Miss Puffy a few weeks back. :mrgreen2:
I'm still very much in love with her, but I've been stumped about how to set her!

She's a 0.74 ct antique old cut (~ 5mm x 4.9 mm) ; at this point I don't know if she counts as an OEC or an OMC :lol-2:
Definitely in the warmer range, but has blue fluo so she does face up much whiter when in the sun, etc. :kiss2:

I originally wanted a simple solitaire with a tulip basket but was cautioned that it would be difficult since the stone is not symmetrical:

Users suggested a bezel setting—I'm not a huge bezel fan, but I could be convinced! The only bezels I really see are the run-of-the-mill simple ones, which I do find a little boring sometimes :(sad But maybe there are others I'm missing out on?

Or is there hope for a solitaire style even with the wonky shape?
What else is out there in the wonderful world of old cut diamond rings? :kiss2:

With her warm colour, too, do you think white metal is completely out of the options?
In recent years I've seen a shift in my metal preferences: for a few years I was obsessed with rose gold, and then warm, buttery 18k yellow gold, and now all of the jewellery I wear on a daily basis is white gold!
Is high colour—white metal ; low colour—yellow metal a hard and fast rule? Will it look bad with this particular diamond?

As for my jewellery tastes, I tend toward simpler, more classic designs. I'm also practical; I want designs that are easy to clean, that I won't have anxiety over disfiguring as I wear the ring everyday, etc. But I'm also a huge romantic, so I like settings with charm in them... if that makes sense!

I hope PS can help me get the ball rolling! I'm itching to get a new Pinterest board made with the ideas for Miss Puffy :lol-2:
Thank you all!

Your diamond is an old mine cut. That's for sure.

Depending on your artistic tastes, you can mount it to show off the existing wonkiness of the symmetry, to you might wish to use a bezel or a cut down collet to minimize the visibility of the somewhat irregular outline. It is your choice. The diamond can look right set nicely any way you wish. 6, 8 or 10 prongs can make a diamond look more round. You don't necessarily need a bezel or a collet. This diamond, set in beads into a pave' diamond dome will hide the outline shape, too. It won't hide the sparkle or life of the stone.

Look at the many styles of estate items as well as modern made pieces. Hopefully, someone will find a mounting style that appeals to you which can be adapted or made to ord

Thank you very much! I have been drawn to the look of 6 prongs but was worried the diamond might be too small for it.

What kind of settings might help make the stone look more elongated, as opposed to round? That's another way I was thinking of going about it =)2

Collet! So forgiving of shape and totally period-appropriate.

Or a chunky halo with baby OMCs… Sako sold this lot a couple days ago but I’ll bet he could source more:

I think a white metal would look amazing with Miss Puffy. I've always liked bright white diamonds in yellow gold and warmer diamonds in white metals. I like the contrast. In fact, I have a warm OEC in platinum.

Here is a setting idea that would accentuate length as well as possibly camouflage the wonkiness if you want to disguise that. It's a semi-bezel, so it might not be your cup of tea. https://www.ritani.com/products/sol...ment-ring-metal-14kt-white-gold-shape-cushion

There's a picture embedded in this blog post about the old mine cut. Scroll down to see a six prong simple solitaire setting with an OMC. I tried to find the setting on the Ritani site, but I had no luck. https://www.ritani.com/blogs/news/what-is-an-old-mine-cut-diamond

Here is a page of OMC rings that might provide some charming inspiration for Miss Puffy's home. https://www.victorbarbone.com/collections/old-mine-cut-diamond-engagement-rings

I know you'll find an amazing landing place for Miss Puffy!

Ooh a cluster! I'm still googly-eyed over @oldcutclubmember's heart halo for Cordelia, and a heart-shaped halo with little baby old cuts sounds interesting :kiss2:

I was thinking collet too, here's one just as an example

ETA - I like @yssie's idea of a cluster too

Collets have always looked like a super heavy bezel to me, and the ones on original antique and vintage pieces are usually a darkened/oxidised metal. But I'll try to look for more modern examples of collets, maybe there are some that look "lighter" or more dainty! :)

Thank you so much for all these incredible links! The semi-bezel I'm not too fond of, but I love going through the Victor Barbone site and seeing all the gorgeous settings!

I see some three-stone settings in the VB site; I also wouldn't mind exploring that route. How does it go—would rounder side stones make the centre look elongated, or should the sides be an elongated shape too to make everything look longer?

Can I extra tempt you with some of @Demelza‘s threads and pics?

There are some amazing OMC halos/clusters in this thread:

I saw those three stone rings on the VB site, and I have to say my eye was drawn to the ones that had the elongated side stones such as baguettes. It appears to me they accentuate the length of the OMC.

I look forward to seeing what you decide!

I’m an absolute sucker for halos and clusters, so how about a halo where the stones on the top and bottom edge of the stone are larger and the ones along the left and right edge are smaller? I think that would elongate the stone!

So many possibilities! Since you like simple and practical with a twist of whimsy and romance, how about a faux bezel/colett setting?

If you look at the center stone on all of these settings by Caysie, the common denominator is that the stone is set in a faux bezel/colett setting. You can leave the center as a solitaire or make it into a 3 stone or a halo/cluster.

Here are some random inspo pics that I have saved as well… halos/clusters, wide band, solitaire… really so many possibilities!

I think I may have suggested a faux bezel to you when you first got "Miss Puffy". Less heavy than a collet (which I also love).

I have a faux bezel and for your stone I would recommend it to protect the girdle :)

@margauxmines Looks like you have lots of great ideas! That's why I love it on here!
