My son is getting ready to propose to his girlfriend and is looking at this diamond:
https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-4462531.htm

He already picked the gold ring with side diamonds, and the center diamond setting can take 6.09 x 6.12 x 3.76 (0.2 tolerance). The diamond above is 6.03 x 6.05 x 3.72)

Do you think he can do better? It looks pretty good to dad ...

Thanks!

Frank

Would he consider one of these and use the savings elsewhere?

Thank you Kim N for your choices. Much appreciated!

I think I should also look on some other diamond solitaire sites to open up the options ...

Hey Frank,

I thought I’d show you this one from Brian Gavin to consider. It’s currently 15 percent off with the code Ifonly22, so it would be right online with the price of the original one you posted.

It would be difficult to do better than a super-ideal cut diamond from Whiteflash! They have a larger inventory than most other super ideal vendors and also a more generous upgrade policy.

Thanks for the link jewels4life!

That looks like a mighty fine diamond. I'm giving it consideration ...

I'd personally stick with the Whiteflash ones. Nothing against Brian Gavin, their diamonds are beautiful, but IF clarity to me is overkill when paired with H color (warmer colored stone.) I just find that an odd combo. But everyone is different. If the recipient specifically diamonds with some warmth in them, then I understand considering it.

One other thing to consider, is what color the side diamonds are in the setting he selected. You really don't want there to be a visible difference between them and the main diamond.

You've gotten some great advice above. The only thing I would add is that color and clarity preferences are very personal, so I would recommend looking at the diamonds in different lighting at different angles. When the person buying the ring doesn't know their future partner's personal preferences, I think it's safer to stick to a minimum of G/H color, VS2 or above in clarity, and of course the best cut possible. Since Whiteflash has an excellent upgrade policy, you really can't go wrong.

It’s just so pleasing every time reading someone is going to propose to their another half~ And welcome to PS, you’re such a good dad:)

I’ll say suggestions and options are already out there, do you think talking with your son to see whether he has an eye on upgrading the diamond in future would be a good idea?

.8x ct is a good size~ At least better than mine when I proposed~ however this may not be significant enough for one to differentiate say whether it’s G or H, IMO. As for the IF clarify option, while it’s tempting, it’s rather down to individual how much value it carries; however it would be less important for me if I am planning to upgrade the stone down the road. That’s why I think discussing with your son will be good. As already suggested by other fellow posters, to guess about the colour and clarify tolerance of the one who receives the ring would be hard (especially when you want to make it a surprise), nonetheless the availability of future upgrade is determined by your son at the moment. That said, most superideal vendor offer upgrade policy, but white flash could be the easiest one~

Hello and welcome to PriceScope, Daimond001!
Check out this G VS2 that has about the exact same spread/diameter and is noticably less tinted:

This G VS2:

Alternatively, he could go down in color for a YG setting and go bigger spread, while still reaping all the fantastic lifetime upgrade benefits that Whiteflash offers to get to the 1ct mark today:

K is a bit tinted, so if he isn't comfortable with it, then don't do it. :)

Just chiming in to say, all of these are amazing choices. So while one may be "better" than another based on personal preferences, at the end of the day, your son really can't go wrong here. Analysis paralysis is real (*shakes fist angrily*). So please let him know that whatever he ends up choosing, his SO will be thrilled and won't be thinking about crown angles or anything at the moment. =)2

Great advice Anastasia! The setting is 14k gold so a diamond 'a bit warmer' should match nicely.

Decision will be made by mid-week, so I'll post what the decision was and then after we receive it, we'll post how happy/sad we are.

It's certainly 'fun' to go diamond shopping again, but only once in a while!

Thanks to EVERYONE for such good advice!

Frank

Now we wait anxiously to see the real deal! My son is over the moon. Even though IF is a BIG overkill, we got it 15% off and now his soon-to-be-fiancé gets to have bragging rights!

Stay tuned and thanks to EVERYONE for your support.
