The posts here have inspired me!

I just took a huge leap and listed diamond cluster earrings I've had for years on LoupeTroop. When I upgraded to diamond solitaire studs, I NEVER wore these earrings again.

I did get a GIA gemologist appraisal for them, and they were valued at $1,950, and she stated they were in new condition, with grading and clarity.

The buyer, of course, will get a copy of that appraisal -- it cost me $100, but I needed it, because I had NO idea what they were worth.

I asked 75% of that on LoupeTroop.

I'm a newbie, so any help or advice would be very welcome to me!

It doesn't sound like there are any fees, but it also doesn't sound like there's too much protection for the buyer or seller. Of course, I could be wrong.

Thanks in advance!m_5cc6e8d2bb22e3e896c9adeb.jpeg s_5cc6e8d2de696a617479015e.jpeg s_5cc6e8d27f617f8045167468.jpeg m_5cc6e8d2afade835e6f026af.jpeg s_5cc6e8d22f4831ae5752aa5d.jpeg s_5cc6e8d22eb33f878c6b2f38.jpeg s_5cc6e8d27f617fa918167469.jpeg s_5cc6e8d22f483143c352aa5e.jpeg

OP, you may want to include the diamond color/clarity.

Although not looking for earrings at this time, if I were a potential buyer, I would be confused with the discrepancy in carat weight, meaning how can the total carat weight be listed as 1.07 carats when each diamond earring bears a carat weight stamp of 0.50 (which adds up to a 1.00 total carat weight)? Or, did the appraiser unset, weigh, and reset all of the diamonds?

Good luck with your sale!

OP, one thing you may want to consider is that these appraisals tend to be inflated, so even at 75% of the appraised price, you’re asking more than what Whiteflash charges for brand new, super ideal diamonds of better color and clarity in very similar settings:
https://www.whiteflash.com/diamond-earrings/flower-cluster-diamond-earrings-874.htm
You’ll likely need to adjust your price a good bit to get much interest.

Yes, I was confused to when the GIA gemologist appraiser came up with 1.07 cttw. No, they didn't unset weigh, and then reset the diamonds. Instead, it looked like she was measuring each of the diamonds, but I'll change my description to 1.0 cttw, even though the appraisal said 1.07.
I was NOT a smart buyer. I was on a trip in 2011 in San Francisco when I purchased these earrings, and I've got to look at the next post to see how much I over paid for them.
I do really appreciate the help!

Thank you SO much. I'm learning. I was really surprised how low the GIA appraisal came in at, and I will not tell you how much I paid for those earrings (WAY too embarrassing). I was on a vacation in San Francisco in November 2011 when I bought them.
It looks like Whiteflash's price is $1,475, but I couldn't tell color and clarity. I'll drop my price accordingly.
I originally posted this in the wrong place (rocky talk), and someone told me most people aren't trying to sell for a profit.
That made me laugh because I've known I paid too much.
The earrings are in new condition and definitely 18K solid white gold, so that might help, and I"m heading to Loupe Troop to lower the asking price!
Thank you SO much for your help--it is appreciated!

The WF stones are F/G, VS quality, ACA melee (means really well-cut stones). Yours may be really well cut also but no one really knows and
no one is willing to pay for the unknown.

What does the appraisal even say? Its too small to read. What are the color/clarity on the stones? How are the cut of the stones?
I'm afraid you got ripped off with that appraisal. If you had it done recently, and its close by, I would go back and ask them to add that info.
(should be no charge but ask first- dont pay them more money). Also, as I stated on your other thread, ask what you could honestly expect
to get for them on the second hand/used market.

Not to beat a dead horse but no one wants to pay you (an unknown person with unknown quality stones, with no return policy) what they
are willing to pay a known company with well-known quality stones. If you got them at Tiffanys or Cartier where the quality of the stones
can be trusted then people may be willing to pay you more but unfortunately, it doesnt seem like you have anything to verify the quality of
the stones that would dignify the asking price. :(2

Ok, so I did beat a dead horse. I'm done!

No problem! I'm known as a "talker" so beat that dead horse away!

It does read H/I on the color and SI on the clarity, so the Whiteflash cluster diamond earrings are much better :(. They were $1,495 in 14K, I think.

I don't have a clue on the cut, but again, the Whiteflash are very likely better.

I'm editing my price on LoupeTroop to $975.

If they don't go for that, my niece is going to have a nice present from this Aunt when her birthday rolls around :).

I DO appreciate the help. I've learned SO much from Reddit posters, and also by reading (and looking at pics) on Pricescope. I don't know about the appraiser (I paid $100), but I do know I really paid too much for those earrings, and I don't want to think about it (LOL).

Life lessons and it was years ago. Definitely not Tiffany & Co nor Cartier, but at least I did buy diamonds and they are in 18K white gold :).

Thanks for your help and enjoy what is left of our holiday weekend. Be safe--we've got BAD weather where I live (tornado alley) and that always helps me to keep things in perspective.

Thanks again,

Linda

I think 800-900 is a fair price. Glad you came here to ask!

@lindam1503 Everyone makes a few mistakes! Goodness knows I've had my fair share.

Sometimes the price you're willing to let a piece go at and feel good about the transaction is just not in sync with fair market value. I can't tell if that's the case here, given how much you originally paid - but if it is that's okay!

Based on everything you've posted in this thread - you bought them in good faith, and unfortunately it's likely you'd take a bath reselling them. I'm thinking that passing them on to a very (very!!) lucky niece might just be the best "feel good" outcome!

I am too! I've been "lurking" here, and drooling a bit too :). It's very helpful to know the realistic value of what they'll sell for. What I paid for them is what I refer to as a "sunk cost" and not relevant to what they're worth.

You guys help a LOT! Thanks so much!

Yes, I dearly love my niece, but I cannot picture these earrings on her (LOL). She's in that age bracket where tattoos and multiple piercings are going on. I'm pretty sure today, diamond cluster earrings of any quality would not work with her current "look". (LOL) I'll see what I can get on LoupeTroop, as it's my first try selling anything there. Maybe I should say "open to offers?"
Thank you SO much for your response, and yes, if I though my niece would wear them, (even if it was in the belly piercing) (LOL), they'd be going her way :).

Heh. She could always wear both in one ear to make them “edgier”.

This is coming from someone who sports tattoos and has most of her hair shaved off on a every 2 week basis. Sadly I don’t have my ears pierced! Mostly because I know I’m too lazy to maintain them. Tattoos are super low maintenance after the first month!

Hmmmn. Both in one ear, is definitely a possibility, but I'm not sure they'd "fit".

She's a beautiful young woman, healthy & happy is what I care about :). I think these diamond earrings may sell on LoupeTroop at my lowered price.
My niece will have other gifts from this Aunt :).

Hi @lindam1503 -

I think you're in the ball park, price-wise, at $975, providing the diamonds are white and eye clean. But this is impossible to tell from the photos. Can you give your impression of the stones? Not worth a lot, granted, as anyone can say anything - but it's better than nothing. In the photos they look fairly tinted and quite cloudy, so if they're actually better than that, you need to take some better photos, or at least let people know the camera isn't giving an accurate representation of how they look in real life, and then add your impression of them in various lighting situations.

Also, add that clarity and color to your LT posting - the appraisal is too small to read there, as well. Alternately, take a closer shot of the relevant information, and add that to the listing photos.

Good luck!

I agree that you need much better pictures! I can’t make out the color or clarity in the least.

Thanks! I know I need much better pictures. I'm not sure where to go to find someone to take them for me :). I'm using my iPhone, and I definitely need help :).

At least I know they're priced right. Now I'm off to find a way to get good photos. Prospective buyers need to see exactly what they're purchasing--I know that's what I want when I'm shopping.

I really appreciate the help here!
