Hi there,

Looking for advice on the diamond weve chosen for my engagement ring..We are looking to do a tapered pave 4 prong setting. please see below.. price is above $15k for the stone

1.51 carat
colour: H
Clarity: VS2
Cut: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Flourescent: M

The table is large and My concern is the Pavilion angle 32 and the crown angle 40.8 seem a little off..

Also is the attached an Aset or an ideal scope? Should i be concerned about the amount of black shown? ASSET SCOPE (1).pngstill (1).jpeg

Thanks!!

I should also note: after plugging the dimensions into the HCS this was the result.... HCA.jpg

Congratulations on your engagement! And welcome to the boards!! I am a colored stone gal, so I'm going to leave your question to the diamond experts. Just wanted to wish you and your partner well!!

It looks like a nice example of a 60/60 stone. This is a different flavor of diamond which will return more white light than colored light. If you are open to other vendors and would like a more balanced performance, these Whiteflash stones have superb light return, will be more balanced between fire and brightness, and come with an excellent upgrade policy.

Thank you @Autumn in New England!

@Kim N Thanks so much for your response! What does a 60/60 stone mean? Also would it make an okay stone for an engagement ring or is it better suited for earrings/ pendant like the HCA suggested...

Does the black in the ASET show poor light return or is that actually blue and just under a different light.

Does fire = coloured light and brilliance = white light?

Thanks for sending the other links through as well, will definitely take a look!

A 60/60 stone has a depth and table both close to 60. I think the stone would be just fine as an engagement ring, as long as you are aware and are okay with the less balanced performance. The black in the ASET just replaces where blue would normally be (the diamond is now reflecting the camera lens instead of the blue part of the ASET scope). Fire does indeed mean colored light and brilliance means white light.

I always marvel at the wealth of knowledge you diamond gals (and guys) possess! This is so fascinating to me. Even with high-end colored stones, we're lucky to get a decent native cut. If we're really lucky, we'll find a precision cut. But they're still nothing compared to the complex science of diamond cuts.

Agree completely. I personally prefer more "balanced" stones, but the one OP posted is a nice example of how a larger table can work well and doesnt always mean the performance is "bad".
