Wanted a slightly higher than low setting. I think it mostly turned out good but wanted to see your opinions. It tapers slightly down to around 1.5mm at the top. I can see a solid 1-2mm of space between the bottom of the diamond and the ring. Also, these pictures are with the ring on my large male hand FYI.

It's all personal preference - some will think it's too high, some will like it. I personally like it somewhere in the middle. I had a lower set diamond previously and it made it look smaller/squat. This time I went with medium height and it's perfect for me. I personally am not a fan of a diamond set that high, but again, lots of people are!

Like HappyNewLife said, it's personal preference. Has your intended mentioned anything? Some things to consider are, what is her job and lifestyle like? If she has to wash her hands many times through out the day, or take on and off gloves, etc. then a high setting like that may not be functional. She of course can wear a band and leave the e-ring at home, but most people like to have their e-rings comfortable for their lifestyle. A high setting is more risky in terms of damage to the stone and snagging of the prongs but lots of people like their stone to be set high. I wouldn't like my diamond set that high at all and would not feel comfortable wearing such a high set stone, but I'm not the one who will be wearing it, lol.

What do you think? You can always propose and if your intended wants it set lower, take it back to your jeweler.

Definitely personal preference. My solitaire is set very high as originally my full eternity ring was in a very bulky claw setting, so the solitaire was re-set to bring it above those claws & prevent chewing. Since a re-set of the eternity due to shape damage, my pear now feels very high. I am reluctant to touch it though, as I have had bad experiences in the past with bad jewellers & bad jobs. It's been safe & sturdy for some years after several failed settings & I want it to stay that way! I will add though, that it gets knocked around a lot. If I was left handed it would probably be ruined :roll If your intended talks with her hands as much as I do, you may want to re-think!

It looks great, I like higer settings, It could emphasize the diamomd and sparkle, especially with colorful nails.

Here is mine so you can see how sky high it is!IMG_20180108_183521.jpg

and higer setting let more lights illuminate the diamond ,could make the color looks whiter, so I prefer higer setting, I like your ring and I am going to reset my ring just like yours.

Agree, that its really a personal preference. I like my rings set low for a few reasons. I use my hands a lot and don't take my rings off to do things like laundry, dishes, gardening, etc. so a lower set stone tends to get banged around less. I also live in a very cold climate and higher set stones make it harder to put gloves on without making the ring turn and feeling uncomfortable. But these are just my issues and it really matters what the wearer thinks and no one else.

My personal preference is that the diamond is not set high in the basket but that the height is raised by a donut or bar underneath the head. The head looks too elongated for my taste. Unless you know what your looking for though, it might not be noticed.

I prefer my stones to be set lower. My previous ering setting was very high. I dont feel like I hit it any more than the lower setting but I just
didnt like the side view. Much more prefer the side view of my newer setting that is lower.

I believe there are many factors involved in the height of the diamond off the finger.
First: occupation
Second: every day wear/activities/weather
Third: comfort
Fourth: wedding band fit
Fifth: style preference

My EC is set in a setting that is not built to hold a diamond larger than 0.80ct, nor is it designed to accommodate a rectangular shaped diamond. Our jeweler had to customize the head of my ER to fit my 1.07ct Rectangular EC, in Platinum, for extra protection. It sits high, but it looks like it fits just right, inside the collar of diamonds in the center of the ring. There is minimal air space between the diamond and the ring, which makes it easier to keep the diamond clean.
I use my hands constantly, and I am constantly washing my hands (I work in the medical field). I put my rings in my pocket, when I wash my hands, and I rarely bump or snag my ring. Honestly, I’m surprised I don’t whack it off things more than I do.
I live in a cold winter climate state, and I wear gloves without issue and without discomfort. I don’t snag the prongs on anything, and I don’t have to roll my diamond around to my palm.
I’m thankful that the diamond is raised in order to compliment, and allow space for my wedding band. The style of my ER is Cathedral with a collar and a split shank, so the raised diamond appears to be the main attraction. I believe its position also adds/creates inferred additional size to my center diamond.

I don’t think my ring looks too high off my finger, and stacking is easy...

Everyone above has given good advice, as stated it's all personal opinion. Your stone is not tiny, but in my opinion the long stems/prongs make your diamond look smaller than it actually is from the side profile.

For me, it is too high. It is just a matter of personal preference.

It is too high for me too, but it depends really on personal preference. And I agree with edelweissmaedl, it lets your stone seem smaller from the side view.

For me it is too high, and ends up making the whole ring look kind of cheap - like it wasn't meant for this stone, but the jeweller "made do". The benefit is that it does look larger from the top down view.

I would go down a bit but not a low setting.

Is this something I could have modified to the correct height with the same setting or do you believe I would need an entirely different setting?

It is all personal preference. My current setting is very high and I am not a fan. I’m saving up for a reset!

Too high for me, I prefer low because I'm clumsy. My ring has a height of 3-4mm in total and I still catch it. (I think the sapphire is quite shallow, compared to others I have seen). Still, it's not a diamond so perhaps this is irrelevant. My first e-ring was a very similar style but with a smaller (0.22 carat) diamond. I don't know how high it was, but I think I got used to it.

A bit high for me.. that said again it's personal preference. I asked for my diamond to be set low, but wanted to see the culet so I think mine is kind of a medium height.

I’ve had all heights. I discovered I am not a gentle graceful mover. I banged my ring with high (like yours) and medium heights. I am most comfortable with low, what some people would call squat. I am personally a fan of “squat” because I hit it on way less stuff (hardly ever), this peace of mind, and to me it makes my diamond look bigger. What is your fiance’s preference?

You should be able to modify the setting so it sits a bit lower. :))

I prefer a high setting, but that would be too high even for me. I'm not a fan of how the prongs are almost vertical. Just my preference though.

I think it flows a lot better and the focus is now on the diamond. :D

I think it looks MUCH better lowered!

Much better! Pretty ring and diamond!

yay, much better!
