18k Gold Band, what's its value?

Hi, I've just received this band as a gift from my grand parents to help in my wedding expenses, but I don't know what's its value in market.

I sincerely don't trust very much in the local jewelers, so I would like to have an idea. I know you are experts in this area, so that's why I came here for your help.

How much do you think it worts? Thanks in advance!

When you say "band," what exactly do you mean? That looks more like a bracelet, necklace, choker, or, if you're really lucky, belt ... and depending on which it is, the value will change precipitously.

You'll need to figure out if it's worth more for the metal weight, if it's an unpopular style/if you need the money immediately, or if you want to sell it as a piece of jewelry.

Thanks for answering my friend. English is not my main language well, it is a bracelet. What do you recommend? I'm not really in a hurry but off course it will be better for me to sell it faster, what do you recommend? I don't know it's exactly weight yet, I will try to get that today.

I see it's stamped 18k, but a jeweler will most likely test it before taking it in for either scrap value or resale.

As far as determining resale value, it varies (like Circe wrote) according to market demand for this style. Just objectively, this style of bracelet may be tough to sell, but it all depends on where you live and what people are buying. Scrapping the gold may yield more depending on the weight.

...and factor in the service cost for melting it. Many places have to pay to have the gold melted down.

If you want the scrap value, send it directly to a refiner, like Midwest Refinery. You will probably get a better rate. But that piece looks like it is from the 50s and it might have a nice value as a vintage piece. Perhaps you should take it to an appraiser or an antique dealer.

Thanks for your answer! the weight of this piece is 80 grams, and I've found that the gold value per gram is from $10 to $15 for 18k gold, but I'm not sure if I've done it right.

coatimundi, I've tried calculating scrap value using that website, I've extracted the ounce price from Banamex bank (National bank in Mexico), and it says the value per ounce is $21,300 (mexican peso, that's around $1,580 usd), so I put that value on the tool, and it says value for 18k gold per gram is $513 (around $38 usd), is that right?

I really wouldn't like to go to a local jeweler and find that he wants to trick me with the real value of this piece

Gold closed at around $50/gram, so 18k gold would be $37.50 (75% gold content). A refinery will usually charge around 15% (at least around here, I am not sure how things are done in other countries), so around $32/gram. If you are selling to a goldsmith, he will probably pay below that, since it would be easier and safer for him to buy directly from a dealer. However, few jewelers buy scrap metal directly from the public, because of the liability (stolen goods, mainly). Pawnshops do and antique dealers as well are a better chance. Please check the value of the piece before selling it as scrap.

Jewelers around here buy scrap gold & advertise constantly. I sold a bunch of things I don't wear, mostly 14K, for about $1000 to a high-end local jeweler. It's a nice bracelet & in "normal" gold-price times, might be more valuable as a vintage piece. Now, however, I'd think scrap value higher. Get offers from several places -- they can vary quite a bit.

According to Lady_Disdain, this piece value as scrap gold should be around $2,500, but I hope the jeweler find this piece to have a higher value as jewel itself.

I would also try Pearlmans Jewelers. They are very respected on these boards and I have personally bought a ring and sold scrap gold to them.
