Hi everyone!

My FI and I went wedding band shopping this afternoon. A local store was having a trunk show, and we both fell in love with two stackable bands by a company called Jolie Designs. Here are a few of the dilemmas that we have:

1) I have a platinum ering and the bands were all 18K white gold. While they can make it in platinum, each band would be double the cost. Is it a bad idea to mix metals? To wear both a platinum and white gold rings together? To us, because of the design of the bands, it was really hard to notice a difference between the metals.

2) Since I couldn''t decide which band I liked better, my FI threw this proposal out - he would buy me both bands if I got it in white gold, so that I could wear both on days that I might not want to wear my ering. I really love my ering, but I often find myself embarassed wearing it at work or around family. during large gatherings I don''t think it''s too flashy or really big (the center stone is 1.19 carats, but I have small fingers and it looks much larger), but it would be nice to have another option. If I decided that I really wanted platinum, then I would have to choose one or the other, which I''m finding really hard.

3) Since this was a trunk show, the pricing we were given would only last until tomorrow. I hate feeling like we have to choose so soon, but out of all the bands that we have seen and shopped for in the last few months, these were the ones that stood out the most. We would have to custom order the bands because my finger size is smaller, so this is around the time that we would need to start ordering to give leeway for errors.

So, please let me know what you guys think about mixing metals. Is it a really bad idea? If I should just go platinum all the way, which band is better?

I''ll try to attach pictures of my ering and the bands. I love the vintagey look and love sapphires and diamonds together.

Thank you for you advice!

Very pretty. I particularly like the top one.

What is your ering setting like? The amount of friction between the two would impact the decision on metals. Over the long term the platinum will wear down the gold if there is continuous rubbing.

ETA: Oops. I just noticed that you are trying to post a pic of your ering!

Here''s a picture of my ering...

I should mention that the stackables were both really thin and delicate - which is why I was particularly drawn to them. I have really short fingers, and they did not look overwhelming on my hands.

I don''t know what you should do. One thought would be to get a thin platinum wedding band to wear with your platinum ering since it is already quite ornate and also get both of the bands you posted to wear when you don''t wear the platinum pieces. You will get quite a bit of flexibility that way.

hmmmmm....I dunno. By the looks of that ering they might not sit flush with the ring which means there would be rubbing in only two points of the ering. I have heard that platinum will chew up gold because it''s so much softer, and if your bands don''t sit flush with your ering (I might be totally wrong, I realize) then that would be a double whammy.

If that''s the case, you might find it worth the money to get the platinum, to avoid mantenance issues in the future.

Thanks for the responses so far....some of the points mentioned were the same ones that I asked to the sales representative at the jewelry store. The response they gave us was to the effect that it is common for people to mix their metals. In hindsight, I think it was just a sales tactic to get us to buy on the spot.

I think I am leaning towards getting the ring in platinum, and I am also leaning towards the top ring. What do you guys think? Which design looks better with my ering? I think the top was more streamlined, while the one on the bottom was more delicate. I guess I can heavily hint to my FI that the ring I don''t pick would make an AWESOME anniversary present

i have heard the experts here mention that you should not mix metals. if your e-ring is plat. you should stick to plat. wedding bands.

I have a 18k setting for a stone that is currently being re-set into a platinum setting. I am very unlucky when is comes to wh gold--something about my body seems to zap the rhodium off within a few months leaving the wh gold looking worn and well, gold in spots.

I agree with your choice of the top ring. It has rounds and ECs, which match the shapes in your ER better, without being overly matchy. Also the straight edges would blend better, in my opinion.
