Searching for an engagement ring stone and have come across this stone which I like. Targeting a nice cut for good brilliance and fire, letting other Cs be the secondary factors. This 2.08 JSI1 stone seems to be a pretty nice cut, but not quite "member recommended proportions". It has an HCA score of 0.9. I have two basic questions:

1. can you offer up any general comments as to the cut quality of the stone and whether the deviations from the "member recommended proportions" are worth being concerned about?

2. an HCA score of less than 1 is said to possibly not be ideal for ring stones. Can you explain that? Given that this stone is to be for a ring, I am trying to decide whether to be concerned.

Thanks,
Will

This is a 60/60 style diamond, so it will favor brilliance over fire. For more balanced performance, I would look for stones closer to the Member Recommended Proportions.

I wouldn't be concerned about the HCA score under 1 for most stones.

I would also shy away from an SI stone where the comments mention clouds not shown, as it could result in transparency issues.

Would something like these fit your budget?

Proportions are fine for a 60/60 style stone, the 33 crown compliments the 41 pavilion.
Actual mages would be needed to check for other issues.
There is a good chance the crystal is going to be eye visible.

Hello and welcome to PriceScope, willnelle!

It has good potential to be a beautiful diamond based on the proportions, but I recommend getting advanced images (such as ASET) to verify symmetry precision and optical performance.

Thank you for the comments. I have viewed the stone, naked eye, loupe and microscope. It looks like a beautiful stone to me, but admittedly I am very much an amateur consumer. I am simply looking to have some outside expert advice, which I seem to be getting here and am appreciative of.

The "crystal" you are referring to, is that the inclusion? If so, it is not visible to the naked eye, but only under the loupe/scope. I believe this is what one would call "eye clean".

Does your jeweler have an ASET scope or an Ideal-Scope on hand so that you can check the optical performance?

Yes, its an inclusion and "eye clean" is good.
