Hi Everyone!

This is my very first post but I have been reading in here for several months now. From the time I started looking for ering for my gf until now that I have decided on the setting and the center stone.
After long weeks of research I ended up on a Tiffany Cathedral Solitaire from BTD and a 7mm pink sapphire concave cut (my budget cannot afford pink diamond$$)

I usually do not post questions when I encounter problems about this research but I cannot find topics regarding this problem/doubts that I am facing now. So I am now making this post to get some light from you guys :saint:

Here is the dilemma:

The "Tiffany Cathedral Solitaire" has 2 choices for the ring width. A 2.5mm and 3mm width, I do not know what width to choose and I have no idea what they look like in real life. Below are the details that you guys might need to know.

Girlfriend ring finger size = 4

Detailed Measurements for the 3mm:
Width, top: 3mm
Width, bottom: 2.45mm
Thickness, top: 6mm
Thickness, bottom: 1.75mm
Height of stone off of finger: A 7.5mm round sets 8.7mm high.

Detailed Measurements for the 2.5mm:
Width, top: 2.3mm
Width, bottom: 1.75mm
Thickness, top: 5.5mm
Thickness, bottom: 1.25mm
Height of stone off of finger: A 7.5mm round sets 8.5mm high.

Can you guys help me on what ring width will be on proportion with my girlfriend's finger of size 4?

Many thanks in advance...

I would go for the thinner shank, because they are generally more fashionable and show the diamond off to its best advantage.
These things ebb in and out of style.
For a long time, a thicker ring stood for better quality, and that's probably why Tiffany now gives you a choice.
I'll never forget the look on my grand old jeweller's face when halfway through the design process I told him I wanted the shank on my ring from him shaved down.
To him, it seemed like a thicker shank stood for quality, and I wanted to take a step down in quality lol.
But to my eye, 'thin was in'! So a more modern look it was, and it's a choice I didn't regret.

lol. I imagine his face is like this :angryfire:

Thank you @LaraOnline for the input. I am also leaning on the thinner shank because of my gf's finger size but I do not know if a 7mm stone will look great on a thinner 2.5mm shank or the thicker 3mm shank. I did not expect this details to be this difficult to decide. Can I finally call myself now an ocd?

When you're shelling out $$$$ for a bauble, it's amazing how the teensy little things really matter!
;))

I have fat chunky stubby fingers, and a thin band would look out of place on me, hence I would need the band to be 3mm or more. My 3-stone small ruby ring was made with a 2.5mm band tapering to 2mm at the bottom. I could have requested for the band to be made wider, however, with the 2 x 0.2ct side stones providing good coverage of my ring finger, I decided against it.

How about having a sneaky peek at your girlfriend's jewellery box and check out the bands on her rings collection? Hopefully that would give you some ideas what she likes/dislikes.

My hunch would be to opt of the 2.5mm thinner band, based on small ring size alone.

Good luck!

DK :))

I would go with the 2.5 - I wear a 4.25 and that's what I'd go with.

I would go for the smaller version because of the ring size of your GF. Also, the dimensions of your stone and the smaller shank will fit nicely together.

Thanks to @dk168, @junebug17, @Acinom and @LaraOnlin. I appreciate all of your opinions :appl:
