I’ve been looking to make a ring purchase, and stumbled onto a lovely vintage 1cttw 5 stone ring. Almost immediately after I placed the order, I found a very similar ring, except it’s a 1.5ct 5 stone. I’m not sure it looks as if the quality is as nice as the first ring, but the price difference is very small.

Could anyone offer their thoughts or insight? I wear a size 7, and I worry a 1ct 5 stone won’t have enough impact. Plus, with such a small price difference, it’s so tempting!

The ring in my avatar picture is a 20 pointer 7 stone. I wear a 6 3/4. I don't think a 5 stone 20 pointer will give you full* coverage.
Close but maybe a tad shy. Really depends if you are looking for full coverage across the top. Here is another picture so you can
see the width of the ring compared to my finger size.

Oh, and here it is at a distance so you can try to see if its enough impact for you or if you are looking for something more substantial.

I'd go with the larger one for sure. I have a vintage 1ctw 5 stone ring and it covers my size 5.5 finger fine, but I'd love to have at least 1.5 ctw if I were to get a new one. You could go to .40 for each stone with size 7, actually.

Just be sure they are both returnable. Only keep if the stones are nice quality!

Thank you for the pics! That is indeed very helpful. I do want to have full coverage across the top of my finger, but I also don’t want the band to pinch between my fingers. I guess I really need to try something comparable on in person.

I have a ring size of 4.75 on my right hand. My 5-stone band is 1.29cttw. It gives me full coverage. Here’s a pic for you. I think you could easily go with the larger size!3A8EA42D-DB14-4B8E-90C8-F3F23E7AC6E2.jpeg

Oh that is beautiful. Yes, it’s hard not to go bigger - plus I know shrinkage syndrome is bound to hit me eventually!

Thank you for your advice. Fortunately the 1ct band is returnable, so I’m going to look at it in person, but keep the .30 pointer band in mind. While I got the impression the first, smaller band is better quality, it’s just so difficult to tell for sure off a few photos. I guess I’ll let my eyes (and a loupe) be the true test!

I have a 1.5 ctw 5 stone made with .30 diamonds, on a size 5 finger. I wish I would have gone bigger, as I feel it doesn't give me entire finger coverage. I don't like seeing the sides of my finger on either side of my last diamond haha.

Wow, that’s a pity. I did find a 7 stone for a great price, so if I don’t like this band in person, I’ll re-consider. I had a shared prong 10 pointer ring at one time, and where the stones ended on the side was very uncomfortable between my fingers. I loved the ring, but I traded it in for something else and wasn’t too sad about it, because it just wasn’t wearable like that.

Here’s a 2 ctw 5 stone I tried in size 7. I love the size of these stones.

Beautiful!

We have similar size— I’m a 6.5 on left hand, 7 on right. I just got my five stone to wear on the right hand in December.

It’s a 2.63 CTW— so 50 pointers, and I had it made in 7.25 to stack in future.

If you want full finger coverage I would recommend the 2ctw or bigger. I’m really glad I went bigger.

ID Jewelry gave me the best price and better diamonds than 66996FBA-EE89-4D4E-A044-1402D27D44B8.jpeg69B86570-F694-4E79-9056-02518FBD4FA7.jpeg89657726-CED7-44F8-9315-4750A694EFA6.jpeg.

Really pretty and looks great on you! This is the 1 ctw, right? What are your thoughts on it?

Yes, this is the 1cttw 5 stone I originally ordered. Shipping was delayed in transit, so it’s just arrived this morning!

You know…when I opened it, I was really happy! The diamonds look very white, it sparkles like mad even in low light (total sparklebomb!) and the diamonds appear to be very nice quality. It fits like a dream and is perfectly comfortable. Plus, it’s a vintage band from the 1930s, which is what I had my heart set on.

I do worry that if I switch it out for a 7 stone, or larger pointers, that the diamonds will rub between my fingers. I can still commission the new, larger band I found for the same price from a different seller, but I worry about the quality I’ll be getting. Overall I think this ring is beautiful and has nice presence on my hand!

I think it has good presence on your hand too, @Alybetter. The stones cover your finger and it looks like they follow the curve of your finger. It really does look lovely on you!

I'm an idiot...was replying to two posts today and used the wrong name...I meant @Leigh_ ! ugh.

You did just fine, I knew what you meant! Thank you so much for the very kind compliment! Now that I’ve seen how it performs in person, I don’t think I’ll be able to bring myself to part with it, even for the prospect of .30s.

I think its pretty too. It gives you pretty good coverage because the stones aren't packed together too tight. Its not a shared prong
(which was probably not around in the 1930s). I like that it is older (a little history there) but still a classic.

I would definitely give it a few days to see if it fits the bill (or if you want larger). Sometimes you just know that something suits you
when you put it on. It looks very nice on your hand!

Ok…the ring is here!! Posting pics for feedback.

I think it's really lovely, it appears to give you great finger coverage, the stones look lively, and I love that it's an antique. But the really important question is.... does your cat approve?

Haha best question ever! My cat wholeheartedly approves. It’s officially a keeper!

Show us! Also for OP I know that there’s a five stone thread somewhere where you can see different sizes. It also depends on the setting. I’ve got a 1 carat total weight five stone and my finger is a size 5. It covers my finger but it also has to do with the fact that it’s a little more straight across. And yes I would love to go bigger. Always I would love to go bigger LOL

I replied before reading that you ended up with a ring already. It’s beautiful!

Here it is!

I know I sound crazy cuz this pic makes it look like full coverage… okay maybe it is full coverage. I feel like I can still see skin on either side of the band though!
