Hi all,

Well, it happened! I got engaged!!!!!!
All my planning and research is finally getting real.

I am planning on a platinum wedding band with engraving.

I always figured I would get it 2mm wide. My fingers touch, and I'm sensitive to too much bulk on my finger, so when I then add an engagement ring with its own 2mm band, it all starts getting quite wide...

However, I do want this band to be durable. Would it be worth going slightly wider, or will 2mm be okay?

Congratulations! Something to consider is that the ring can spin if really thin. You don’t want to have to be resetting it upright all day long.

My great aunts platinum engagement ring was less than 2mm, it was bought for her in 1927, and she wore it every day, wasn’t at all careful and it never needed any repair work, it’s now 93 years old and absolutely fine.

2mm will be durable. I have several 2mm bands in platinum, gold and silver, and after almost 20 years, they are still in great shape.

I have a 2mm platinum band from 1936, and it's still in excellent shape!

Depth is key. I have a 2mm platinum wedding band but it is also almost 2mm deep. It's incredibly sturdy as a result. I have other "flatter" 2mm rings that are not.

Yes, great point @Austina plat would definitely be durable in the long term. Gold has a tendency to wear down depending on thickness over decades, altho rhodium plating for white gold would help with that. But if going with plat I think 2mm no problem.
How special to have a ring 93 years old!

I have a thin band, but I can’t remember if it’s 2 or 2.5. I think in plat it will be durable.

This!

2mm is perfect. My wedding band is about 3.5mm and never spins (but it's pretty wide I guess!) but my two rings under 2mm are constantly spinning. 2mm will be durable.

Thank you everyone!
We are visiting the jeweller today. I will ask them about making it 2mm wide but with a suitable depth =)2

my wedding band is a heavy comfort fit 2mm 18K yellow gold band..love it and I have worn it almost every day I think for about 5 or 6 years now and other than scratches its has no issues....
