Up for sale I have a 3.40 carat total weight PLATINUM engagement ring, with a 2.44 carat round brilliant IDEAL cut center stone. Unfortunately, I have to part with this ring.

The specs of the center stone are as follows:

Carat: 2.44ct
Color: H
Clarity: VS1
Cut: Tolkowsky IDEAL / EXCELLENT

The diamond has H&A & has an HCA of 1.7 for excellent fire, brightness and scintillation.

The side stones & pave stones within the setting are all VS2-SI1 & G-I. This is an absolutely gorgeous ring, and there have been no shortage of compliments for it wherever we go.

MEASUREMENTS OF CENTER STONE: 8.87 x 8.74 x 5.17

Table Width: 59%
Total Depth: 58.8%
Crown Height: 14%
Pavilion Height: 42%

I am asking for $39,800 for the Ring. I will gladly use any sort of escrow service as well. I am located in the New York area. Please contact me with any questions. Below is a link to my listing on diamondbistro as well.

I think you may have some difficulties raising interest in such a large purchase based on an EGL cert. EGL is reliably unreliable, so people don't know if they're buying a GIA I, J, K, etc. You can't price compare without a reliable grading, and an EGL cert doesn't provide that. You would perhaps garner more interest if you send it to a known, quality, third party appraiser like Neil Beaty or David Atlas. They can provide GIA-quality grades without requiring the stone unset (like GIA would).

Good luck with the sale. :))

+ 1 We all don't want to be party poopers but EGL stones like yours have been graded usually in Israel, Hong Kong, India and so on. What this means is that EGL International is not as reliable at certifying diamonds compared to EGL USA which is marginally better and GIA is thought to be the most accurate. Unfortunately most EGL International stones are 2 to 3 colours out (this can be up to 5 or 6) if you went to get them certified by someone at GIA, they are usually around 2 to 3 grades out on clarity and are frequently out on cut, so GIA would possibly not give your stone a triple excellent rating, call it Hearts and Arrows or indeed class it as an Ideal cut.

The long and the short of what this means is that the stone is worth way less than an equivalent GIA graded diamond. If you compared it to a GIA graded stone, I'd guess it would likely be a K/L in colour (but it could be the bad light in your photos) it's definitely not what we would class as a H in colour. I can't comment on the rest without seeing the stone. It is a nice big size and a pretty setting!!!

I think it is important to educate sellers on the criteria that most buyers will judge a diamond/diamond ring purchase. The OP is asking a buyer to make a significant purchase money wise. The more education the better and I think you are doing a service in trying to provide that education.
