I will give 3 clues by answer 1 question a day.

You must agree on what the question is before midnight, or I pick the question

People in the trade who know what it is should hold their tongues (Paul!)

I have no idea what those may be, have my guesses, but too shy to post......

Did that come from a volcanic eruption?

Thought I posted this earlier...is it coal???

Yes it is pure carbon (as is coal) - but it is the crystalied type came from a volcanoe - it''s what we like.

5 1/2 hours to first clue time - you have not really asked any decent questions for a real clue yet?

Just to be clear, are we trying to figure out what these stones are?

Or are we trying to figure out why someone's showing us these particular 3?

If the first question, then: black diamonds??? Obsidian? (oops, I retract obsidian if these stones shown are pure carbon.)

they are diamonds
what is this all about?
why would i show you this?

diamonds are pure, crystallized carbon.....right?

I like that 15 ct better....how are they "related?"

black diamonds?

other than cutting and polishing, have these diamonds been treated in any way? if so, how?

edit: and yes maxine, diamonds are pure, crystallized carbon. though colored diamonds have minute impurities that impart their color.

they are diamonds.
okay, maybe we should go a little more basic here
33.gif
.......where are they mined?

I got it!! Maybe that poor fellow mined those stones himself, and that''s why his finger is so mangled!! Lol!

Black diamonds cut half the way (or "blocked" - see name of picture). I thought "KV" is the source too - but it ain't aparently.

Now why would anyone want to facet black diamonds like the transparent ones. There's no point to optimize angles there - so why does Garry even bother ?

Let me see... perhaps this is what the material looks like to make the big white ones: 15cts D/IF H&A, remember ?

Are you into synthetics Garry ?

Are they used to cut diamonds?

N'ah... 'guess Garry is playing Santa

Just give those girls some coal - you know.

Warming up the "divorce ring" advertising campaign, Garry ?

What if i told you it was the same cutter that made the 15ct D IF H&A's?

So they are "related?" Was this India or AU???

Okay, it''s the template for new cut standards?

.....black diamonds are difficult to cut....if you can prove to cut a black diamond well, you are awarded the prestigious opportunity to cut a huge flawless, colorless diamond to ideal proportions......(?)

So... you went by some high teck Indian diamond cutting hub that cuts large and difficult materials (your confort zone, no?).

There's one million dollar piece and a couple of preformed boart standing testimony.

the only thing these two have in common is chemistry and cut.

Now, what are you going to do with these, Garry ?

Could it be a polycrystalline CVD synthetic diamond ?

It looks similar to these:

A CUT ABOVE Apollo uses chemical vapor deposition to grow plates of very pure diamond (left) that can be cut and polished into beautiful gems (right). APOLLO DIAMOND PHOTO

If I were to ask for a clue, it would be this - What is this objects Mohs scale of hardness?

I think that would tell me an awful lot about it, and it would probably eliminate quite a few possibilities.

You''ve taken an apprentice and these are the stones he (gender based on state of manicure) practiced cutting on?
