3 stone necklace - which third stone would you pick?

My third stone choices from Yvonne are here!!!! In the photos the top two stones are the ones I own already. The third and smallest stone is what I am looking to purchase.

So which would you pick?

1) tanzanite
2) zircon
3) teal spinel (picture with flash otherwise it was too dark to see teal color in my house at night but I think it would do better in sunlight)

Hmm, I'd like to reserve my vote until you can take these same three photos in daylight - I think it would significantly change the interplay of colors. If I had to choose from these pics, I'd say the tanzanite, though I'm sure it will look so different with daylight.

I second minou but for the time being I vote zircon. More of a 'fresh' colour palate for me then a graduated one the tanzi provides.

Will try Wednesday am before work (won't be home in time today). Also, opening and closing all the little gem jars and rearranging so such a slow process. Combined with the fear I will drop something or one of my adorable pets will "investigate" it makes for a bit of a slow process.

I'm leaning towards the tanzy at the moment. The zircon is almost too eye catching. But boy of boy do I want a pair of zircon earrings now!

I also like the tanzanite. Like the others, I think it would be useful to see natural light pictures. However, I do think even if the tanz turns blue in natural light, it will still go well with the others.

What color metal are you going to use to set the stones-yellow or white gold? I love the zircon better that the tanzy but it is too bright compared to the two other stones. I know the spinel is dark but I think it matches the other two stones in terms of saturation and color compatibility. I would go for the darker stone and set in a beautiful yellow gold. You can always do the same in another project but go with lighter stones.

Sunshine pictures! Taken with the same camera in early evening indirect sun. Order is 1) teal spinel 2) zircon and 3) tanzanite. I'm definitely leaning strongly to the tanzanite. Agree or disagree?


@lambskin I'm a white metal person so probably 14k gold. Although I would consider rose gold. My inspiration picture was prong set but I'm thinking about bezels. I don't know exactly how you go about it but I'd like David loads to make the setting.

Yay! I've wanted a tanzanite but didn't feel comfortable putting one in a ring because I can be klutzy.

AND I'm terrible but I've already thought of my next project (in addition to my search for the perfect light grey emerald cut spinel that is at least 8 by 8 or 9 by 7mm)! I'm going to make a color by the yard necklace -- a long one! You all are such terrible influences

As an aside, why are there so few pictures of colored stone necklaces on this site? And earrings? I like rings, I love my rings, but I am really a necklace and earring girl at heart.

Haha nope I also voted zircon, just more fresh looking for me. But I'm used to liking stuff in jewellry that the mainstream wouldn't!

@chrono @theredspinel I did really like the zircon but I don't really wear that shade of blue/green so thinking about wearing the necklace the tanzanite is more in the color range I wear on a daily basis. It was soooo sparkly however, so I will definitely look for a pair of zircon earrings down the road.

The reason I opted for it is because it stands out but yet is balanced by the smaller size, so it doesn't just all blend in and becomes unnoticed.

I vote for the tanzanite. It seems most harmonious to me. They are related but also each adds it's own uniqueness to the mix. I find myself searching for the relationship more with the other 2, whereas there seems to be a very natural relationship between the colors of the gems in the first image. All are lovely, and it seems like a really interesting project! Color relationships to me are like emotions, so all are unique in their way. What color mood feels right to you?
