So Acinom reminded me that I should be a good PSer and start posting my latest projects to the CS forum. I have a couple other projects in the works but this is the first one to be fully completed. I'm wearing it now!
Heartfelt thanks to Acinom, Niel, arkieb, and DK168 for shepherding me through this project by providing support and advice; and a special shoutout to Niel for her eagle-eyed scrutiny of the CADs!
==Back Story==
I have admired Pandabee's iconic emerald-cut zircon ring for a while now, and although I'm not usually a zircon person, there's something about emerald-cut zircons that just spoke to me. When I saw this zircon listed on Jeff Davies' FB page, I decided to get it! It is a lighter blue than the usual blue zircons but I was specifically looking for a lighter tone. I would say that it has deepened a little after being set.
I had bought gems from Jeff before but this is the first time I used his bench for the setting. The setting was based on the classic HW 3-stone ring, and Jeff and his bench did a great job! I was particularly impressed by the prong work (especially the prongs for the sidestones).
Here are the exact instructions and inspiration photo I gave him:
"3 stone, claw prong, tapered bagette 0.2 ct diamond, low profile, max 2.3mm band width, US ring size 6.75, but with all 14k white gold"
The first CAD that he sent was almost perfect, I only asked for a slight adjustment to the placement angle of the baguette sidestones (thanks Niel!) and to show the claw prongs. The second CAD was perfect. Jeff was extremely easy to work with. He's not super verbose so it helps if you have an exact setting / design in mind when you talk to him.
It is super comfortable to wear and the finish and detailing is excellent considering that the price was extremely reasonable. Communication and turnaround was great, no problems (it took about 5 weeks to confirm the design and make the ring). Jeff sent it by FedEx from Bangkok at 4pm this Monday and it arrived at my door at 11am on Tuesday morning (yesterday), i.e. less than 24 hours! All in all, I'm very pleased with how this ring turned out and will consider Jeff for my future projects.
