Hi All,

What's a reasonable price for a 4 ct Colombian no/ insignificant treatment stone like this one?

I have not seen it in person yet. I am told that it is a bit more bluish green in person.

GRS cert

I was quoted just under $30k for an almost 4ct Muzo/Minor oil/Alpine green.

Whoa-was the clarity a lot better than this one?

How green was it Elli? Don’t show us the stone, but can you find a comparable colour to show us?

No way to know, imo. The appeal of untreated emerald is like the appeal of unheated sapphire -- it's only a "feature" when it's an attractive stone; otherwise it's a "bug." That one is so included (in that cropped view) that I can barely see the pavilion. I think no-oil is a gimmick at this quality level. I'd much rather have an F1 than that. (And F1 is as high as I'd go.)

ETA: Maybe I'm just cranky for some reason

@LilAlex you aren’t the only one who is cranky today!:confused2:
Your comment reminded me of this announcement by GRS
‘Emeralds are occasionally sent to laboratories in a state where untreated fissures are visible. In 2016, GRS Laboratories introduced the concept of disclosing the presence of untreated, i.e., potentially fillable fissures (cracks) on all GRS gemstone reports for emeralds. This has alerted the trade about the common industry practice of post-testing treatment (re-oiling) of emeralds.’

Sadly, this cert is from Oct 2021!

Ooh, there have been stories of dealers actually removing the oil, getting a cert and then re-oiling the stones. Sigh… continue the search! It will be educational and fun =)2

Not really searching for an emerald…just got an opportunity to acquire a pretty ring with this emerald. I’m just trying to determine if it’s a good buy since I’m a colored gem noob.

Thanks all for your feedback.

The ring was purchased!
