Getting pretty confused by all of these. Are some of these the same with interchangable names??

Can someone help identify the differences. Are any more 'durable' than others? Do any sparkle more? More trendy? Any info would be helpful in making my decision.

On a very related note, Im looking to get something similar to this: (this was what my GF picked out at Jareds about a year ago when we just looking). I could still get the setting from them but it seems way overpriced for 18k. I also am not particular (although also not against) the euro shank

Looking for stones are GOG, WF, JA, and BGD
Here are the closest I've found so far...

Any info or suggestions are much appreciated
Planning to pair this with a 1.2-1.4ct princess and a matching band

THANKS

As long as it has 4 prongs, it is a 4 prong setting. There are 4 prong, 6 prong and 8 prong settings.

There are many different ways to set a diamond or gem:
Bezel
Prong set (trellis, plain 4 prong, etc)
Channel set
Pave or bead set
Gypsy set
Bar set
Tension set

This might explain what each type of pave setting means:

Shared prong is when 2 diamonds share one prong. More pictures and explanation here:

This is probably the closest: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/pave-and-side-stones/eternal-grace-with-pave-18k-white-gold-5822w18#more

BGD can source (if they don't have one in stock) a lovely princess for you to go in it. Brian has a great eye for princesses. So this is the setting I'd get. Since they will have to make it for a princess and they make each setting to order, I would ask them if they can "adjust the basket to allow for a flush fit wedding band." So it will be closer to the original.

They can do that for you. There might be a small customization fee, but it's worth it.

And I guarantee that BGD's construction and diamonds are FAR superior to anything Jared stocks.

What about this one? http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/side-stones/14k-white-gold-0.54ct-common-prong-round-shaped-diamond-engagement-ring-item-1105

One thing Im not a fan of is the horizontal bar around the girdle, particular with diamonds. Too 'blingy' for my gf. She prefers more traditional. Im sure the head can be adjusted as you said just mentioning.

Also the one from Jareds I believe is a shared prong not a pave, is that correct? The one above from JA is common prong fwiw

Thanks!

I would favor the WF settings over James Allen. Plus WF usually has a good selection of ideal cut princess stones. Th bar on the basket definitely does not have to have diamonds on it. That is something you can request. But I think the look of the basket is better with the bar than with a standard V-prong which honestly is just a cheaper head.

Just figured that the basket would cover more of the stone and the light. Also I am still looking at the stone from WF as well as JA. I have a chart i put together with the various ones im looking at if you have any thoughts on any listed. I was liking the 1.27 from JA though. But give the chart a look. I also linked the stones and their ASETs. Thanks all

No the one from Jareds is pave. Certain pave styles share prongs too. That setting is also very close and allows for a flush fit band.

Yep. Had already been talking to WF about the Elena setting. Main differences I noticed were the bling on the head. I had asked them about removing the diamonds on the head. It brought the ctw down by .2 approx yet the price went up by a few hundred. Worse yet it was no longer returnable (not that I intend to though)

Not saying Im not considering but just mentioning. I think right now the ones from JA, WF, and BGD are the closest so it may not come down to where I get the stone to match. You guys have thoughts on any from the chart? Thanks all

She'll love the bling in the head. Her view when wearing the ring is most of the time in profile so that will be a nice upgrade for her and a small surprise (in a good way). Keep the cost down. Keep it returnable and keep the diamonds in the head.

Don't customize that setting. It's a waste of money. The only reason she didn't pick that setting is because Jared didn't have it.

Thanks Gypsy, youre probably right. Did you have any thoughts on the stones in my chart? Im going to post the ASETs for the stones later tonight when the GF goes to bed and i can more easily use the computer in private. Thx

Im reading some mixed things on JA on the quality of their settings now. Would you guys say WF is generally of higher quality?

Also one thing I like about WF is they said I could get the Petite Open Cathedral and if my gf ultimately prefers the Elena, there are no fees to upgrade other than the price difference between the two. Unfortunately the Elena is meant for a Round stone so setting in Princess would make it 'semi custom' and therefore not returnable.

Sorry what is a 'peg head'?
