Hi,

I’m going to upgrade my ering. I’m in my 40s and want something that I’ll enjoy for the rest of my life. I’m considering these two options. I’m looking for something classic…maybe with a twist and something that has presence (not dainty). IMG_3760.jpegPlease let me know which you prefer!

- cushion cut 2.5 ct on bubble prong band (with matching wedding band)

- emerald cut 2.5 center with traps (with curved wedding band)

The emerald cut with traps is classic and has lots of presence. The cushion is lovely but dainty and will become dated.

Another vote for the EC, however, I love ECs!

Don't like the band in the cushion ring as it does not look substantial enough to last a few months let alone a few years!

Emerald...you will have to baby that first ring/setting with those "bubble" set diamonds. I would not consider it a classic.

You have to decide what you'd like to wear for the next however many years though.

Try setting the EC east to west for a twist on a classic!!

I like cushion cuts but I wouldn’t like it in that setting. Too fragile. For a timeless classic, I would probably go with the emerald cut with emerald cut sides if you want something different from what you have. Emerald cuts have a much different affect than rounds or cushions, so just be sure you would be happy with their performance.

Of those two options, love the EC.

One other route for you to consider—a solitaire of any shape. The look is classic, and if you wear bands you have the ability to switch things up. I think the setting with the cushion in your first photo will become dated, but if you like that shape it would look dynamite in a soli.

Re: curved wedding bands….people vary, but I had one for nearly 20 years and wished it were not curved for most of that time. When we first got married I couldn’t imagine ever wanting to wear just a band, but sure enough, I did on occasion, and it looks a bit odd if the band is curved. It also drastically cuts down on your ability to stack.

^ Agree with all of the above. The first is too dainty and although I would virtually never say "too youthful" about any jewelry (except maybe grillz :cool2:), it's almost child-like. Love the second one.

Congrats on an upgrade! So exciting. To me the cushion pictured does not seem IMHO very pretty. Something about the facets that I don't like. The EC ring I really like. Sophisticated and beautiful. In real life I don't see many EC cuts so they stand out.

Another vote for the EC. I think the pave on the cushion looks like it would be irritating to your other fingers and fiddly to take care of. I love that east-west setting that @Godrick posted.

Thanks so much for your response! I’ve been wondering about the curved band. Do you have a suggestion for a band that would work with this ring that isn’t curved? Or just wear a band on your right hand and the ering on the left? What I like about the EC design are the straight lines and I’m not sure if the curved band aesthetically works with this ring since it is curved vs straight.
