Hello! I am in the process of acquiring five 0.4 carat MRB (cut to super ideal standards per @mrs-b ). I reached out to David/Amy to ask them to design the ring. I have a three stone WF ACA butterflies that I wear on my right. I would wear this five stone on my left, so it doesn't have to match, but I would like them to complement each other.

I ruled out the u prong setting (I felt like the poor stones were naked on the profile), a shared prong setting (too squared off), a trellis (too swoopy and high).

I realized it was important to me that the ring was set relatively lowish, has a slimish band, not be too busy, have a soft look, and that the stones look round. It will be platinum.

This led me to two "crown" type of settings, one I saw on a three stone on DK's website, and one that is more traditional and there are versions by DK, JbG, CVB, and other. I do not mean to imply that all versions are equal, just that the style of the "head" is similar. From the top I believe they would look similar with six prongs, claws prongs. I settled on the one on DK's website because I though maybe the lines complemented my butterflies better? And here we are, at a CAD. I have a horribly deficient right sided brain (hence my pic collage to narrow down the styles) and would love y'all's opinion. I will definitely need a wax to soothe my anxiety but wanted to know if y'all saw any red flags? Thanks in advance!

WOW!! I think the CADs look perfect as is and I don't see anything that needs tweaking. It is going to be gorgeous!! Can't wait to see the wax on your finger.

I like the CAD too - as long as you only see the roundness of each diamond. Don’t like the fourth picture in your collage where you can see metal around the diamond/prong. I feel like that distorts the round shape of each diamond.
The style does look great with your Butterflies ering setting even though they will be on separate hands!

I'm eagerly following your journey. Please do post pics of the wax when you receive it.

Thank you! I will post photos for sure!

Oh yes, I see that too and don’t like it. That’s wasn’t one of his, it was on JbB, but I will point it out to him and specify I don’t want that. Thank you!

I will! I don’t even have all the stones yet but I reached out to them and they jumped right in. I told them it was no rush and I didn’t want to disrupt their holiday schedule. They have been super responsive. I’m excited to get this hammered out so that it’ll be ready to go once I finally secure my little stars!

Hi @FornasettiLover

I've just gone over your post and your photos, and I wanted to make a couple of points.

Firstly, I have a 6 prong 7 stone setting, and will have it remade at some point in the next 12 months. It's perfectly made by DKJ - incredibly delicate and the prongs are minute and utterly symmetrical - but, even so, I find it scratchy and uncomfortable. It's set low, and as precisely constructed as it's possible to make a ring of this nature and yet, even so....ouch.

Curiously, despite seeing a bunch of these online and adoring every single one, in real life, I wasn't fond of the straight-down view of this ring. I have no idea why - it just seemed to look....gees, I can't even explain it. I just don't love it. In *profile*, however, it's spectacular! One of the prettiest rings I've ever seen, and the precision in it, as I said, is just off the chain! My diamonds, tho, are only 27 points each, so perhaps with 40 pointers, it will address whatever it is my eyes are seeing but my mind can't articulate.

I love the style you've chosen and think it will look lovely with your Butterflies ring.

I'm including the only photo I have of my 7 stone ring so you just get one more option. If 6 prongs is your preference, I think this version is as good as DKJ has ever made.

Good luck and pls keep us up to date as you purchase your diamonds - such fun!

@mrs-b I am so glad you are up to pecking through these posts today! I absolutely looked to your ring as inspiration and only settled on the other because I felt it complimented my butterflies a hair more. I love all your little crowns!

Is it most scratchy from the sides? Comfort is so important to me, which is why I never tolerated an eternity ring. Do you feel that your top view is too "busy"? That is certainly a concern of mine that I hope the wax helps me with.

I love the classic tiffany basket two prong five stone ring, and I love the profile of it, but from the top I don't like how squared off the stones end up looking, and how thick the band ends up being bc of the two prongs on the end stones. I bought a fake on Amazon to wear and this never stopped bothering me.

My only other idea, is a Tiffany basket type setting, having the two shared prongs pinched as much as safe, and having it taper to one prong on the side where the stones meet the band. Does that make sense? If this wax looks busy I may ask to see that. Or maybe instead of two shared thick prongs having small claw prongs for each stone? Still less prongs overall but not quite six? I'm not even sure if that makes sense, and I've not seen it done, which is how I landed on the six prongs for roundness and delicateness but worry about busy. Sigh.

I have a video wearing the Tiffany 5 stone ring if that would be helpful. Just let me know and I can post it.

Yes please! Do you remember the tcw? Mine will be 2 tcw. That would be lovely!

Hey FornasettiLover, :wavey:

Just to be clear, I'm not advocating for any particular setting style for your project, I just thought it might be helpful to see images of one style that you are considering.

I've been collecting research on 5 stone setting styles for my own edification because I plan to have a band made in the future. For me, I liked the Tiffany style a lot (I'm not entirely sure its the one I'll go with, but its a top contender.)

This ring was a size 5.5 so it was slightly big on me (my ring size is a Tiffany 5, non-Tiffany 4.75). The diamonds in this band shown below are .33's. When I was wearing it, I didn't see any metal of the band showing on either side (left or right) which is my own goal -- I want a 5 stone to go from neighboring finger to neighboring finger, and consider band showing on the left and right to mean the row of diamonds is "too short". The opposite problem -- having neighboring finger bumpage -- means the row of diamonds is "too long". Either of these no-no's can be adjusted by either selecting larger/smaller diamonds or by increasing/decreasing the arch height of the diamonds you already have (ie the higher the arch, the shorter the distance on a straight line your row of diamonds extends).

The perspective on this got a little skewed, I took the photo at a weird angle by accident. :lol-2: In real life, its beautifully round and symmetrical.

I do still love the simplicity of this, I just don't love the two prongs on the end where the diamond meets the shank, it makes the shank so much thicker and my eye is accustomed to my 2mm bands. If the six prong wax at all looks fussy (I am not a fussy kind of person) I will ask for a modified Tiffany. Perhaps pinching the inner prongs together and making a single side prong will achieve what I want. I always think if Tiffany does it, it must be amazing.

The wax arrived! I think the size of the stones and the height work great for me. I love the look of the profile as well. I guess the only question left is if the top looks too busy? Are there any creatives out there who have an opinion? I would definitely need a wax of a modified Tiffany if I went that road. Thank you in advance!
