5 stone to eternity?

I've been considering an eternity band for our upcoming 15th anniversary but I've been torn on the size. I have a 5 stone (for 5 years) with 20 point stones. I got a quote for a 15 stone eternity because I thought that would be sweet for 15 years, but they guessed the stones would need to be around 25 pts each for my size finger. 25 pts isn't that different than 20 pts. Honestly I feel like unless I went with quite small stones (like maybe 5-8 pts) or huge stones (like maybe 40 pts) that the overall face up look wouldn't be THAT different than the 5 stone to justify the expense.

I was looking through the show me your big eternity thread and a past member mentioned turning a 5 stone into an eternity. Has anyone done this? Does this seem like a waste? I'm guessing it would mean just using these 5 stones in a new ring vs actually trying to alter this ring. There wouldn't be 15 stones but it would be sentimental to use the same stones.

Any advice or other ideas of what size eternity to get with this size 5 stone? I just don't know how much use I'd get out of both of they're too similar (I do have two hands but would like variety).

Going with 40 pointers for an eternity band seems a little huge to me. I’d also find small diamonds a little underwhelming if it’s a special occasion.

However, I think it could look quite nice if the new band has diamonds of a different shape, eg aschers or hearts. It might not feel too same-y.

My own plan is to get a RHR that has a bit more design to it than an eternity band but isn’t based on one main diamond. The ones below are current favourites.

Those are really beautiful! I stack my bands so I might like to try one wide band eventually, so that is an idea.

Really hoping to get some more feedback if anyone has any thoughts.

I like the idea of using the 5 stones that you already have. I agree that you will probably need to have them set in the new ring. I don’t think an eternity of .40c stones would be as comfortable as an eternity of 20 pointers and I doubt you’d wear the 5-stone once you had the bigger eternity. And yes, having an eternity of .25c stones and a 5-stone of .20c stones would be silly to me...they would be too similar and I doubt that you’d wear both.

I am assuming that you have round stones for your 5 stone ring?
converting them to eternity is a great idea.

some initial thoughts.

i would not go down in size of the stones. keep them the same or larger.

Have you tried any eternity rings at all?
reason is that some find it uncomfortable between the fingers, adn others dont. so it is going to be personal preference.

larger stones mean more is being felt between the fingers.

Also, the setting- channel set (if they are roudn stones it would mean there are gaps between the stones), are generally more comfortable to wear as the diamonds and prongs dont dig into the sides of the other fingers. but the trade off is the gaps that you see or dont see between the stone and the channel setting.

consideration of the eternity meaning that you have to be careful with every day wear- cos the stones on the underside will get banged up a bit.

@Decision_Decisions Can you order a pre-made 4-5 carat returnable ring to try on? I have a 2.2 carat eternity band that I rarely wear. I had it made several years ago but I just don't find it to be very comfortable.

This is a great idea, I definitely want to try this with a cheap immitation band! I ordered a 2ctw cz that I've been trying and I find it very comfortable, but I'm overall underwhelmed with this size so I'm glad I tried it first.

I think the ctw will be around 3.5 with 20 pt stones so I'll see what I can find to try.
