I bought one of these because I needed to see to see the inscription on the girdle and I wanted to see if this would work. It's pretty cheap (plastic of course) but amazingly it works! And it has UV so the blue fluorescence in my diamonds shows up too. I only paid $1.12 and $1.55 shipping. Picked up a couple of 30X loupes from the same seller for $2.00 each and they are not too bad. Not that I'm trying to promote the seller or anything - but the 60x loupe is surprising. You can't get anything but a closeup view though. It's very compact and small device. I have no idea how long the batteries will last. It took about 2 weeks to arrive.

i'm interested in getting one. which seller did you buy from? there seems to be a lot of different sellers.

I'd hate to recommend a seller. Is that fair? It came from China, China. The others all came from Hong Kong. There's something about 24hours :) Can't you find any that sell for $1.12? It comes up if you put in "Mini 60X Jewelry Loupe LED" and select lowest price first.

haha are you in the US? i only see $1, $5.something, and the shippings are much higher than you paid? (i'm guessing the $ conversion may have been a lil different when you bought it?)

nevermind, i found it!

good to know-I bought some cheap ones on amazon and they didn't work at all! the 10x was exactly the same as the 30x

i ended up ordering from another seller... the one selling it for $1.12 had way too many negative feedbacks! i chose one that had a 99.8% and it was still $3.19 shipped, so i'm happy. can't wait to see how well it works!

I told my FI about it. He said I should really buy one.

Did anybody get theirs yet? Just curious as to what you thought of it......

I just got mine yesterday, i love it!!

I wonder whether I can resolve more detail with my $300 10x loupe than you can with your $1.12 60x loupe.

There are many more aspects to quality of optics than magnification.

they are really around 20x and work fairly well.
A high quality 10x will have better resolution but hey for a buck and change they work.

for $1.12, who cares? ;))

i'll keep mine chained to my keys. that super bright light works great as a flashlight.

One or three hundred dollars, my point is magnification means nothing without resolution.

Some 1,000x microscopes cost $20 but some 66x microscopes sell for $15,000, yet people really think they can see more detail with the $20 one.

... Just like there is a lot more to diamonds than size.
But size is easy to understand.

relax kenny. nobody said this 60x one works better than an awesome resolution super duper $300 10x one. for $1, one would be an idiot to assume that.

this is fun, it has black lights, bright lights, and it's small and easy to carry around, that's all.

I just wanted to be able to read a GIA inscription on the Girdle. My 10X or 30X with my eyesight wouldn't allow me to do that - this did. That's all I was hoping for. I thought it was a cute little thing for the money. Good for the road. I just thought I'd pass it along here in case anybody else wanted to waste a couple of bucks.

Or as a jeweler I deal with that buys at Estate sales said when I told her about it: "I have a 60X handheld microscope that also goes to 100X... I HAVE to be able to see inscriptions when I am out. Can you send me the item number of the loupe as I think I would like a few anyway?" She probably has a $300 loupe too.

Thanks ForteKitty - I'm glad you liked yours too.

thanks for this post!

I got the 60X loupe with the LED & black light. LOVED that I found fluorescence in one of the diamonds in my wedding band and several bright blue in my new semi mount! There's really nothing different about the ones that glow bright blue in normal light. I'm also disappointed that my main stone doesn't have at least a little bit!

my seller was lapsun_gift located in China. I paid $4.25 all up.

I've had to go into a couple of jewelry stores the past couple of days to get some things looked at and while I was there I couldn't help but pull mine out of my pocket and say "tell me what you think about this". The Jewelers are grabbing a business card, turning it over and hovering with a pen - and saying "Now tell me again, exactly where did you get this and how do I get one?" ROFL

When I tell them the price I paid for it their faces are - priceless

(I'm not talking about the Maul stores either.)

I got one of these the other day myself, lol. As more of a novelty then anything just to test them. I was pleasantly surprised at the actual image quality these things have! I don't believe they are even close to 60x though. I also got one of the 60-100x ones, and was surprised by it as well, I could even find and see a two phase inclusions in a cut beryl that I didn't even know was there, lol. Needless to say that stone is on the photo block now for my Leica Wild M420. :). But for the price of these things they are simply amazing! My Wife loves the one I got her(after tested mine out, had to order her one, lol). The UV LED also comes in handy for testing things too. It is a great tool for in field usage and the like. I have since added it to my "bag". :). FYI, these 60x deals are even sold on a few rock and mineral websites and cost anywhere between $10-$25! Even at $10, they are a steal really, but not so sure about $25!? lol.

Thanks for the tip...in for one! I lost my last loupe during my recent move...it's somewhere in the garage.

My fiance got me a 60x w/ LED and it is so much overkill it's a challenge to use, like you can never view the whole stone at once and it's difficult to even find the stone within the viewing lens.

You can't get anything but a closeup view though

That was in my first post. It's extreme viewing.

Actually, I just noticed yesterday that the tube slides in and out on the eyepiece and it DOES go into an even higher resolution. Talk about overkill! At that point I can't see anything. I see better when mine is pushed all the way in. I guess mine just loosened up or something as I didn't even notice it had that option until I was showing it to someone.

HEY i just noticed it too!! it was sticking out and my goodness the details i can see!

Hey, I just came across this. There goes $3. Haha. Waiting for the mailman.

Time to prod Kenny again if this 'toy' works. :))

 I think that I will too Tristan! I've been using my sons Spy Gear fingerprint magnifier! Crazy how well it works, but I'd feel a little silly taking it into the jewelers.

This specimen looks like something you might be self conscious about too, but $3, it goes to around 20X, it can "Zoom!", it seems to work, and it has a light! And a Blacklight for UV detection! It has a pouch! It is $3!!!

Haha. Prod prod.

My dad just gave me one of these. I was fascinated by the blue fluorescence light. I had never been able to actually "see" that my diamond had fluorescence before. I will say, you have to basically touch the loupe part to the diamond to see. So it's great for inscriptions and what not, but if you want to see something on the underside of a mounted diamond you cant. And I don't think it's actually 60x either. But for a few bucks..it's a fun toy.
