This project started with me buying these bixbites and buying this pair of red Burmese spinels from Cecile Raley Designs in February 2019.
I just wanted the bixbites for the rarity, since I had never seen bixbites in person, especially as these came untreated, which is pretty rare.
Then, the next day, I saw this beautiful spinel pair and impulsively just needed to have them. (Tagging @elle_71125 because she had her eye on the spinels and wanted to know how I set them.)
I had the initial idea of wanting the spinels to be "ears" in a curved ring that would go around a solitaire. However, I did not like the idea of a monocolor ring. So, I bought some lavender sapphires to alternate with the red gems. These lavender sapphires all came from Madagascar.
However, I did not have the solitaires yet; I bought a silver spinel from Cecile Raley Designs and a blue zircon from Litnon later that year and had them set by Ivy and Rose.
After wearing these solitaires for a couple months, I started favoring my other custom projects. I always wanted more color than I could get from the single gem. So I thought I could get my chaser set made to go around these solitaires. However, 2019 was a busy year, and I had a lot of higher priority projects, so the chaser set was postponed for this year.
