Here are a few pics of me and Dora! These are not the best pics as far as lighting...and there are a few caveats (i.e. I won''t look so yucky on my wedding day!)
1. No bra, not clipped, so things are not looking perfect around the bust area :)
2. No spanx, so please ignore the tummy region!
3. I tied the bow wrong and meant to loop it around twice, but I only looped it around my waist once - that''s why it looks a little too "thin" of a sash.

Soooo, let me know what you guys think - I know it''s hard to tell b/c I don''t have a bra on, but my biggest concern is looking too busty and I''ve been thinking about altering the neckline. Either add on another inch or change it to a more subtle sweetheart like the Melissa Sweet Tiffany. I''m about a c cup...maybe it would not look so busty if I had a bra on? My consultant also mentioned "opening up the cup" whatever that means....

So what should I do about the neckline situation? Fire away! And thanks for your input

This was Dora waiting on the hanger for me to try her on

If you think it will look vastly different with proper underpinnings then I think you should re post new photos after you''ve tried it on with a proper bra, spanx, etc. If you ask me based on the above photos I''d have to say it''s not the best cut to show off your curves. But perhaps it''s the no bra? It''s making your girls look very big and it accentuates your mid section at a point that''s somewhat awkward. Again, perhaps it''ll look really different with the right under garments?

Your mission: Re try it on with proper under garments!

ITA with surfgirl. Get thee back to the boutique with proper underpinnings and go from there. In current form, the dress is not doing you justice, and you have a beautiful figure. Frankly, all I see are boobs in these pics, and I''m a heterosexual, happily married female for crying out loud, LOL!

Also, I think by "opening the cup" the sales associate meant releasing the darts in the bustline a bit to make the bust cover more of your bosom. You''ll have to try it on again with the right bra, etc. to see if that would help the situation. All that said, it is a beautiful dress and I can see why you''ve fallen for it. I love the detailing and the overall style! Another route you could go instead of completely altering the bustline is to add an illusion piece within your decollatege to veil (pardon the pun) a bit of your cleavage. I.e., you could use a piece of the sheer overlay of the dress within the "v" part of the sweetheart neckline and still achieve the same sweetheart shape but be a bit more covered in the chest area. That way the whole bustline would not have to be totally de- and then re-constructed...just thinking aloud here, run that idea past the boutique and see if that''s an option.

So where are those pictures taken? I don''t recognize the fitting room, and I thought I had scoped all all the places that sold Dora in Manhattan!! Wedding Atelier, PoB, and Kleinfeld (I think, they carry Melissa Sweet but I never tried on the Dora there).

You definitely need to try it on with some undergarments. All of the above places I mentioned gave me a longline bra to try dresses on with, maybe you could go to PoB and try it on again? I went during the day when there was no one else there and they let me take pictures, also somehow I ended up working with the manager of the store, Eliana, so maybe that had something to do with it too. If you go, ask to be with Eliana, she was so great. Anyways, I agree that it will look VASTLY different with some undergarments.

Also, I think part of the problem is that the sample you have on is a little old, and the boning needs to be repaired. I have the same problem with the sample I bought, the seamstress is going to have to either take out the boning and sew in a longline bra, or repair the boning. You can see at the bottom of the boning around your hips and lower belly region, the boning is flaring out a little. When you buy the dress new, it won''t do that.

But most of all, you need a bra to shape those puppies!! Back to the store for you! And bring a friend so in case they won''t let you take pictures, maybe your friend can sneak a couple! I would be happy to go with you!!

Thanks for everyone''s input. Sorry the pics are not the best because so many things are missing...lighting, bras, haha!

Anyway, yeah I also feel that the dress is "boobs" as it currently is and don''t worry, I do not plan to wear it as is if it still looks boobaliscious with the bra on. I tried it on with a bra a time before this, and (I think) it looked a lot better. This was a rushed trip where the woman just snuck me back in the next day so I could take a few pics (so she didn''t clip me either). Oh and this was at Saks.

I have an appointment on Jan 6 to figure out the neckline with my woman at Priscilla (in Tysons). Kara you are so nice to offer to go with me to re-try on here! Unfortunately I have a final exam and then I leave the country for 2 weeks, but as soon as I get back, I''m going to POB to get things figured out.

I know the midsection does look weird the way the sash is hitting me, and I think it''s because I don''t have it tied in the right place.

Re the neckline: I worry that it is just the overall deep, curvy shape of it that doens''t look good on me, so there are 2 options I''m considering and will figure out at POB: 1) have it modified to be not so deep but more of a gentle sweetheart or 2) have the TIffany neckline exactly. I have tried the Tiffany here and it is a great neckline on me (and I tried it with a bra....whoo!) Unfortunately I don''t have picstures of that, but you can see it here: http://www.brides.com/fashion/dresses/gallery/wedding_dresses/vendor/designer/melissasweet/detail/119709/?offset=62&page=7. I''m kind of leaning towards this 2nd option since I know how it''ll look and I''ve tried it on! I will definitely keep you guys updated after my appmt! Let me know your thoughts :)

Also, maybe I will post a few pics of me WITH bra in other dresses....that''ll give you guys a better idea of my "shape" so you can offer advice on the neckline (and I also don''t want anyone to think I am a big boobed freak!)

I agree! Post some photos again with some of the appropriate undergarments so we can really see that body of yours!!

Haha I don''t have boobs so I''m like, "wow her boobs look great in that dress!" Mine were VERY well hidden inside the cups!!

You look very happy in your gown, and I''m very happy to see more pictures of Dora!! I think if you really feel uncomfortable with the cleavage, the idea of sewing the overlap closer together will probably help to pull the girls in (but what do I know?) Otherwise, I like the idea that Monarch mentioned, with the illusion piece. Try that out. It may work, or it may not because it might look like too much going on at the same time.

Where did you get your gown? I''m soooooo jealous of you girls having your gowns already. I have to wait until June! Karasue, I tried on the Dora at Kleinfeld''s too. For some reason they only had a size 12. I wanted my BM to see me in it, but when I put it on she was like "um, NO." Then we realized it looked funny because it was a size 12 on a size 2 person.

Oh my gosh! That one is a STUNNER on you! It accents your tiny waist!!!!

I love it!!! Do we get to vote????

OHH OHH OHHH! I like the first one the best! Sexy but gorgeous!!!

One more!

Ok, so let me know what you guys think!

Haha...oh boy! Well I''m not *financially* locked into the Dora, but I was mentally set on it - hahaha! But if you guys think it is horrendous on me I should reconsider!

It''s DEFINITELY not horrendous on you!!! It''s beautiful! But you''re such a lucky girl to look FABULOUS in soooo many dresses! You really have some beautiful choices to sift through!! Good for you!!!

Thanks, Cleo :) You are too sweet!

I just wanted to post the other pics to give people a sense of my shape to determine what types of necklines look good on me. I really love the Dora! I''m worried though, that it is not going to look good. Eeeek!

While the Dora is a stunning dress, I have to say that you look absolutely amazing in the third dress you posted- the one with the sash. IMO not many people look good with dress that has a sash there, but that dress looks like it was made for you.

I completely agree with this. That dress is to-die-for on you. It''s so elegant on you and fits you like a glove! Just my two cents

- but you need to get the dress that you feel like a princess in! If the Dora gives you that "feeling" - go for it! It''s a stunning dress - you can''t go wrong! I''m excited to see what you end up choosing! They are all gorgeous dresses!

I agree. You look great in all the dresses! But I''m a tad confused. Did you already buy the Dora or are you still deciding?

Thanks guys - I guess I really like Dora because it has the vintage, gardeny feel. While I love the silk satin ones, they just felt kind of heavy and too formal for my wedding/my personality. I don''t know - I really love polka dots so I want Dora to work!
8.gif
We''ll see what my consultant comes up with!

CJ - I didn''t "buy" the Dora but I told myself and my sales consultant that that was the one I wanted, but she is waiting to order it until I come in in January to figure out the neckline. It''s slightly confuisng because I have money locked into POB in Tysons so I have to get my dress there - either a priscilla or a melissa sweet. So I guess I could switch to another dress if I wanted to but I had officially decided in my mind, and told my consultant, that I was ready to order the Dora as soon as I came in on the 6th. Sigh....what to do.....

I think that Tiffany neckline is so great, with the ruching in the middle. Did they say it would be no problem to make the dress with that different neckline? Also, maybe they can make the ruffles smaller like the ones on the Dora. The ruffles on the Tiffany just look a little too big to me, but what do I know? I've never seen it in person.

Also I was thinking: what if you try on the Dora with a different sash? I think the reason that third one looks so great on you is that it makes your waist look soooo tiny and really draws the eye toward your waist. The Dora really draws the eye toward your bust, and I actually tried on the Dora with an ivory shiny silk sash and I thought it looked great! Just something to draw the eye a little bit away from the pups and accent your hourglass figure!

Can't wait to see more pics

I had the same exact feeling about liking the way the satin dresses looked, but wanting the vintage-y styling and light, garden feel. I think the Dora is the best to fulfill those requirements!

Kara - excellent point about the sash! I was actually considering that but I couldnt picture in my head how it would look. I think a slightly thicker sash would be better (and I also have it tied only once instead of looped...which could be part of the problem).

Anyway, so ivory satin sash was the one you tried? I am totally going to try that!

And they are willing to change the neckline however I want...for a small fee, of course!

I would try to do the smaller Dora-style ruffles, too.

Thanks for the tips guys :)

I personally LOVE this one you. And still think it has a vintagey/garden feel because of the lace. The Dora does not look terrible on you and if you do get all the proper undergarments it could be just as stunning.

But if you are LOVE the Dora I would say go with it. But there are plenty of other options out there for flowly dresses like the Dora. :D

thanks April - you guys are so sweet and helpful!

I wish I could run to POB right now and get this figured out! So hard to study with dress distractions and worries!

i love love love this one as well.
it really flatters your gorgeous figure. it''s smooth and fitted.
love the satin around the waist - it looks like butter :) and it contrasts nicely with the other light dress material.
