We were able to acquire five small rubies very inexpensively at an auction last December. Each stone came with a GIA cert stating heated Thai, and total weight was 3.27tcw.

DW thought the rubies were on the pink side and we decided to put them at the back of the setting queue. With the ringdant project complete, it was time for the rubies, so we gave Amy the go ahead. In the meantime we had already figured the rubies were a perfect size for a five stone ring, and had our inspiration ready to go. Two CADs and three weeks later our new ring was finished! Not quite a record, but it sure was a pleasure to have a project go without a hitch. =)2 DKJ did a great job, and to our surprise the rubies look much more red when set. First the video:

And now the glamour shots by DKJ:

Very pretty! DK’s team did a great job in making the slightly varied shapes and sizes look more uniform.
Can’t wait for handshots!

Isnt it just lovely when projects go so smoothly and the artist youre working with is such a professional in that they anticipate your next move and are ahead of it in service? Therefore the whole project timeline feels to have gone incredibly fast?!

What a lovely ring that in my opinion could even be unisex and look beautifully stunning on a woman or man, so you might just have to borrow this one from your wife :kiss2: bravo!

Rubylicious. A Klass act all the way. Just gorgeous. And I agree with @Garnetgirl this ring can be worn by man or woman. I love it.:appl:

Beautiful ring! Would love to see hand shots!

Yes exactly. The rubies vary in size by 0.9mm and were channel set with the largest in the center and the smallest on the ends. Amy and her team then tapered the width of the channel so it became slightly narrower towards the ends. A perfect end result! :D

Ditto handshots! That would show off the proportions and gradation. I feel and share your excitement :)

Yes the tapered channel was Amy's idea right from the beginning. We had discussed the optimum shape of the diamonds that might be used to fill in the gaps between the rubies. Amy explained that rounds would be much less expensive than tapered baguettes, and we agreed that was the way to go. The first CAD came with three equal sized rounds, and DW asked if we couldn't have the two outside diamonds made slightly larger to better fill the space. The second CAD, emailed to us the next day, was perfect, and we were off to the races!

To be completely honest, I love the setting and the royal style of the ring, but the rubies are just nice, not quite a showstopper for me. It could be the cut or the fact that they are heated Thai rubies, or possibly the difficulty of capturing the red color accurately on camera, but they look a little dull to me except for the 3rd hand shot, in which they do look beautiful.

I hope this is not construed as a ring bashing, because there are so many qualities about it which I like, and maybe I should keep silent, but I did ask for hand shots. I was hoping I'd like the rubies in your hand shots more so than from DK's photos, and I think that was the case.

Not bashing at all @voce I appreciate and respect your opinion.:kiss2:=)2

The rubies were an impulse auction purchase, I only paid $750 for the entire suite of five! DW and I both decided they weren't particularly good, and that's why we waited so long to set them. To be honest they came out far better than we expected, my first reaction was "surely they can't be our rubies!" :-o But yes, they are, and we are completely and totally happy with the ring!:love::love:

Lovely ring Prs! I cannot get over how they managed to make all the rubies work. I have this irrational fear of things not measuring exactly (which has improved once I started buying jade pairs) so it's eye opening to see you make all the different rubies look well matched proportion wise in this design.

I know this is an older thread but I just wanted to say this is a really impressive design for getting the rubies to look perfectly cohesive. The ring is gorgeous!
