i''m sure this has been done before, but i''m a bit sad about this trash the dress idea, i spent good money on my dress and plan on donating it after

to each her own, but what are your thoughts on this? do women specifically buy really cheap gowns for this purpose?

Some women do buy cheap gowns--some trash the one they wore. I don''t know that it really warrants being sad over it. Does it make you sad when women keep their dresses in their closets forever?

it does actually, i've been telling my sisters to donate theirs for years, one of them finally considered it, but hasn't taken the time to have it cleaned yet

well sad is probably an exaggeration

I bought a second dress for the trashing since I knew it was going to go for a swim in a pool, and my original dress was silk-satin. The cool thing about it is that I chose a taffeta, and although the beach may have dirtied it up a bit, I walked out of the pool with a pristine white dress. After a quick cleaning, it was ready to be worn again, and it's been worn by 2 more friends/acquaintances so far.

I don't know that I would have felt sad trashing my real wedding gown, since my TTD session was fairly mild, and didn't cause any drastic damage to the dress. It just got a little wet.

oooh, when i thought trashing, i literally thought the dress could no longer be used, but i''m glad to hear the dress is good as new after a cleaning

thank you for the clarification

now i wonder if i should give it a try?

Some people choose to take scissors to it, some people just go roll around on a beach. It''s really up to you how you want to treat it, but I wouldn''t trade the images we captured for anything.

The symbolism is that you''ll never need the wedding gown again since you''re married now. It''s a final and absolute commitment that this is the person you''ve chosen.

Now, in real life, most people don''t re-wear wedding gowns to marry multiple spouses, but I appreciate the intended sentiment.

Many brides DO buy a cheaper dress, but very often I hear the same comment: The dress was fine after a cleaning!

I am doing a TTD session because everyone I know that did them LOVES these photos! Most of my friends have their TTD photos on display over the more formal wedding day photos.

I didn''t buy an expensive wedding gown for several reasons, but one was that I wanted to have a TTD session. I also plan to donate my dress when all is said and done...

I wish I had done a TTD session! I mean, it's mostly wrecked anyway from the abuse it took on the beach for photos, and at the luaua. It would have been fun to capture some more destruction.

ETA: We're planning to go back Maui for an anniversary in a few years... maybe I'll have some fun with it then!!!

thank you so much for sharing! now i''m seriously considering it because FI and i met at a beach and playing and rolling around in the sand sounds so us, maybe we can just hire our photographer out again and do this after the wedding, it sounds fabulous! i guess my dress would need to be cleaned either way.

wow, i really do sound fickle now don''t i?

I don''t know how much he charges for inter-island travel as he''s based in Oahu, but check out Dave Miyamoto, who did our TTD pics on North Shore in Oahu. He was AMAZING to work with.

The guys I''ve seen in trash the dress photos ranged from wearing formal wear to wearing khakis and a nice shirt to wearing jeans and a tshirt. FH and I have a really cool package with our photographer. We get the wedding, engagement, bridal, and trash the dress packages all in the bundle and we''re gonna trash my dress the day after the wedding. He''s gonna end up wearing khakis and the same color shirt and tie as the groomsmen. It just all depends on what look you''re going for. But I''m soo excited to do my TTD.

My husband wore a tux for our wedding, but since my second dress was more beachy, he wore a khaki suit (of which, the jacket stayed on for maybe 10 pictures) with a blue shirt and a white tie (that was gone quick, too).

I think i''''m going to do a trash the dress shoot for a couple of reasons.

1. I am totally obsessed with pictures, and I can''t pass up the opportunity to get some really awesome shots of me and my dress.

2. My mother kept her dress for 30 years, and then ended up throwing it away.

3. I don''t think i''m going to have kids so there''s no point in saving it for a possible daughter who will most likely want her own dress.

4. My dress is from David''s Bridal so not the best quality and will probably be falling apart after the wedding anyways.

So true so true. And most of the pictures I''ve seen for TTD have been sooo awesome! Very different and artistic!

ficklefaye- you are so cute. TTD to me is just rolling around on the beach with my new hubby and walking into the ocean with my dress on. i don''t plan on actually "trashing" it. I just want to get some cool pics :) I also wanted to get some pics of my fiance'' and I hanging out at the swim up pool bar at the resort. I dunno. HTH :)

I''ve already booked a TTD session for on our honeymoon at Lake Tahoe. I plan on actually trashing the dress- take me hiking, in the lake, the photographer is already talking about lighting the train on fire while I''m still in it. In other words, I''m not bringing the dress home. Maybe part of the train or beading or something for a momento.

My family has a bit of a problem with this, but something this wild for awesome pics is so my fiance and I. We hike, we are outdoor people. This fits. To each their own right?

I think doing this and having kick butt photos afterwards is sooooooooooo much better than having it hang in your closet preserved for the next 50+ years. What better what to show your new husband you love him, by saying "I''m never going to need a wedding dress again." (not that you would wear the same one if you married again, but its symbolism) and awesome pics out of the deal!!!
