soo my SO and I just said goodbye to each other 3 hours ago, after spending maybeee 34 hours together? (collectively) He drove from VA, where hes based, to his mother''s house where I met him after working all day Friday. I work Fri & Sat, since I''m in school from Mon-Thurs, so I couldnt take off Saturday; but I got back from work and was able to have dessert with his family and all their friends (they had a pig roast during the day and although I dont eat meat it killed me to sit at work from 930-530) and we watched a movie on the couch late into the night. ANYWAY, although thats a sweet little summary I know it doesnt satisfy the juicy LIW details your looking for..

Sooo we were talking about when he goes on deployment in October. His mother and I are hopefully going to fly over and meet him for the holidays or for new years (whenever he''s allowed leave) and we got on the subject of how romantic it''d be if I left his girlfriend and then came back to the states as his fiance.

(esp because the meeting point currently working itself out to be a European city)

!!!!!!!! It was a shortly visited topic and I told him we can''t talk about it anymore because I''ll only daydream myself into insanity the closer it got to the holidays plus I couldnt bare the thought of self inflicted disappointment AND having to leave him after the vacation knowing we wouldnt see each other again until mid May. (As a side note... I should probably advise him that shipping an engagement ring to a navy ship overseas may be a bad idea.. right? Idk what he was thinking as far as that goes but does anyone have advice? I guess theres always the option of buying it and bringing it on board when he leaves in October or purchasing something in Europe?) I know that we''re going to get engaged eventually, but its been creeping closer and closer the more we talk about it. I wouldnt mind waiting to get engaged next summer, when I''d expected all of this to happen because we would be through the deployment period and have time to start planning... AND he''d be with me when people congratulated us. But I''d absolutely melt if SO proposed to me on a chilly winter evening under the stars on a centuries old street in (cant tell ya'' specifically, hehe) Ahhh

To end this little short story.. my SO texted me about and an hour into his drive back to VA and my separate drive back to my own home to tell me that he "can''t stop daydreaming about when and how to propose" I told him I wished he could share

My husband''s in the Navy and I remember we got engaged right after he came back from a military deployment

. Your plans for bringing the ring on board sound pretty good as long as he keeps it locked up all of the time. You might want to find out if it would be safe for him to keep it there. I know that the Navy Exchange online store carries engagement rings (even some ideal cuts) and they ship overseas to fpo ap addresses. You have to give them about three weeks for shipping and 1 week for delivery totalling around a month total (that''s what the website says). Not sure you''d be able to go online, but your boyfriend can go on there and look at the selection.

Good luck and keep us posted. It sounds sooo romantic

Thanks for your responses, girls

heraanderson - thank you for all your advice regarding the ring. I''m not sure if my SO has bought one already or what. There was talk for a while about his great grandmother''s diamond and his mom was going to get it appraised last I heard but of course thats not for my ears anymore. I''ll def let him know about the exchange''s rings, regardless.

SailorsSweet, that is so exciting! Where in Europe is your SO going? I''m in your same shoes, mine is in the middle east and I''m going to see him in March/April (hopefully).

Please keep us updated!!

The Winter proposal sounds so incredibly romantic!

Thomperchik - He''s mentioned two specific spots- one for the holidays one for new years. Im not supposed to talk about where hes going on deployment(navy stuff) but they''re both frequently visited European cities. His mother and I only get to meet him at one. I''m very excited, especially about the city we''re supposedly meeting up at after Christmas. I''m going to miss him so much by December and he''ll only have been gone for two months. Is your SO in the army? I guess he''s somewhere safe enough where you can go visit him, huh? How long has he been gone for?

leeNY - Thanks for posting - I agree
