A little yellow zircon...but it has no sparkle

I bought a pendant from eBay purely for the zircon. I liked the yellow and my plan was to create a single station DBTY...but the stone is lifeless.

I'm fairly new to the colour stone journey and am keen to learn, would love to hear any feedback on why this this little zircon just doesn't sparkle. (My plan is to return it to the vendor. It was listed as Edwardian and is stamped for 9ct.)

I've tried indoor lighting (kitchen spotlight) and outdoor in full sun but not a single twinkle.

I have also given it a very gently clean! The stone measures about 5mm.

Either it's not zircon or it's very poorly cut. Can we see a picture of it layig flat from the top (so we see it straight on)? I think it has a large window but am not sure from the pics

Sorry it's not livelier and I agree with @lovedogs. Looks like a big window right in the center.

If it's not a zircon you should easily be able to return it or even if it is there should be a return policy of at least 3 days hopefully. ETA: Just reread your post and see you can and are going to return it. Good. Sorry it wasn't the stone you were hoping for. I think your project sounds lovely and am sure with the help of the colored gem experts here you can and will find a gorgeous and lively zircon.

It’s a pretty yellow color. The glow of the stone reminds me of citrine, though it may be due poor cut alone.

Thanks all, just about to have dinner, then I'll be back with more photos=)2

Photos facing straight on...is the blank area in the middle the window? On the back of the stone the facets end in culet (does this make any difference to windows). It's hard to photograph what I am seeing. The colour looks better now - it's dark outside with kitchen lights on but I am going to return it.

I have another question...I see no black* in the stone I have but the ones @lovedogs kindly linked to above have lots of black in the photos - what causes the black areas and if you only have photos to go on, is more black better?
*I do see a black circle round the outside of the stone in this photo but IRL it's not there!

One last photo...IMG_20190907_213015872_HDR.jpg

I give up! the yellow at the moment is actually quite pretty, but not at all picked up by the camera =)2 (But I am still going to return it).

And one last observation..from the side the stone is volcano shaped but the top of the 'volcano' and about one third down towards the base is black. From the side it's as if the stone has a black top...any ideas what's happening there?

Edit: removed the photo of the mastercut gem stone to avoid any confusion.

The yellow does seem pure and pretty but the window is rather large that maybe affecting the brilliance.

Are you sure it’s Zircon and not Citrine or even paste (glass)?
And as for being Edwardian, does it have hallmarks indicating manufacture in the early 1900s or is that just the vendors “best guess” at age?
Unless you got it for melt vale (which wouldn’t be much) I’d return it and buy a loose Zircon from a gemstone vendor seeing as your plan is to make a necklace in any regard.

This. It doesn't really look like zircon to me
