Diamond Centre where Four out of Five Cutters are Disabled

André Messika, a supplier of polished diamonds to the luxury jewelry market, employs 43 diamond cutters, 28 of whom are hearing impaired and eight polishers who are wheelchair users.

That is awesome, Garry! As a former special education teacher, I am always happy to hear of good jobs for those with disabilities!

We had a wholesale jewelry company in Melbourne when I first started who employed only people with thalidomide deformities. Most people will need to google that. Horrific results of a headache drug given to many pregnant women after WWII.

Exactly. I try to warn people about rushing to get new medicines or vaccines, but some just have no clue of past disasters and won't listen. Just because something is approved doesn't mean it's completely safe.

I LOVE this. My father tried to do something similar in the ‘80’s in the Bronx. EPA wouldn’t even consider his proposal. Long story short, a client of his had a factory in the Bronx. A household name. The equipment was quite noisy but mitigation was so pricey that it was cost prohibitive. There was a school for the deaf in the area. Dad’s proposal was to train the non college bound kids to operate the equipment. Win/win.

They left the Bronx taking the jobs with them.

Folks let's keep the vaccine fear mongering off the forum.

When i was in South Africa a town in the Western Cape called Worcester had a school for the blind for all levels of disabilities and ages
I remember being amazed as this tiny little girl read out the bible in Afrikaans from brail

After school age they did vocational training
They made lovelly craft for sale but they also taught piano tuning !

This is great! So glad to see the diversity in the industry! Being a diamond cutter does not require much communication skills or move from place to place. The charity I'm involved in supports children with special needs and we are also trying to find such opportunities to help them incorporate into the society! (heart emoji. how come there isn't one!)
