So I''m thinking here...

I will be in Morocco all next year, and if he gets this fellowship thing he is probably getting, then he''ll have some time off in the winter (off season for tourists). Now I''ll already be there, so that''s a few thousand dollars of plane fare saved (thank you state dep''t!) and I''ll have an apartment.

Since he is visiting me once anyway, I was thinking we could just take the time and call it a honeymoon--spend some time at my apartment in Rabat and then travel for a week or two, maybe splurge on the honeymoon suite at a nice hotel. Could visit Essouria, maybe the Sahara if he wants to, etc.

Has anyone done the honeymoon before the wedding? Any opinions on the adivsability of this?

I think it would be great to spend time together before the wedding but I don''t think it will be the same as after you get married. Perhaps you could still have a little honeymoon afterward and enjoy this opportunity as well?

I was thinking maybe a weekend in the states after the wedding--like a weekend in vermont or similar. But to make this the "big" trip...

I think it is never bad to spend some quality time (ugh, hate that term but it fits!) together, whenever it is. I am not sure I would label it a pre honeymoon...it is just a great opportunity to see eachother and have some fun. I think your expectations will be vastly different if you put a label on it, versus just going and having a great time in eachother''s company! (jmho)

nope, I asked for opinions and I am glad to get them...I think the ''honeymoon'' idea mostly came as I was planning on us doing the whole visit on a shoestring budget, and then realised it might be the best opportunity to splurge a bit for awhile.

Splurge away! I am sure you both have earned it. And, I think whatever this trip is about, having wonderful and romantic memories can be very sustaining while you are planning things...
