I almost cannot believe this is not a Mahenge spinel. It seems to be a typical Mahenge color and it's purportedly from Tanzania, but the seller said he purchased it in a parcel 20 years ago, which would predate the year Mahenge was discovered (credited as 2007). Who knows, maybe the math is a little off on both sides and this IS a Mahenge. In any event, it's gorgeous, and I'm excited about my setting idea!

Wow what a lovely stone!!!

You're killing me Smalls! Holy...

 And just like that, I covet another one of your stones:love:
Man look at that, it's crazy. The color, the glowwwww.
Drooling.
Well, you have my deets now if you ever want to part with this one, too.

That is PERFECT. It absolutely glows!

What do you guys think about the setting idea? I think it's right for me, but I also drew this simpler design, based on an antique piece that got away from me...

They were finding Mahenge top reds and pinks several years before the big find. Just as nice but in very limited quantity.

The big find came, and top red and pink Mahenge Spinel rose 700% to 1000% in price overnight depending on the source dealer. Most people other than dealers did not know they were finding top Spinel’s there already and the big find was huge news erasing the memory of prior Spinel’s found.

I love sleepy bright pink/red spinel. Spinel might be my favorite species.

I think either works as they both have everyday wearability and they're both really pleasing to the eye. How important are accent stones to you for this piece? If the fan makes your heart sing then go with it- it's a beautiful design with a little more 'fancy' flair.

That color is ridiculously gorgeous! Can’t wait to see what you do with the setting. I actually really find the first more ornate one very striking and a nice way to really glam up a smaller stone with a HUGE presence because of the color
