I found this lanbo setting, which can hold 7 round 4mm diamonds.

I really like the design of it. I have seven round colored diamonds ranging in size from 4.3 to 5.7mm. Only one is above 5mm. He said he could make this setting to fit all 5mm stones. Do you think I would be able to set all of them in here? Would I be cutting it close on the 5.7 mm stone?

Here are the stones in question so you can see the layout of how I plan to set them and the various sizes, with the largest one in the middle. They vary in color from olive green, to yellow, to pale pink and the middle one is a brown-pink. Photo stinks, but at least you get the idea.

What occurred to me immediately is that if you take the average of 5mm, you've potentially got a 35mm wide ring, without any spaces between or allowances for metalwork. I understand that they're graduated slightly in height but that's really going to fill your finger from side to side and I wonder if the end diamonds will tuck between your fingers?

If you think it'll work then I'd ask him to make the centre piece for your 5.7mm - I'm not sure it'd squeeze into a 5mm without having a knock on effect to all the others.

May I make another suggestion also? I actually don't like the far left diamond as it really doesn't match in terms of colour whereas all the others look like they were meant to be together. So how about you knock off each end diamond? So you'd potentially have a 5 stone ring comprising of the middle 5 diamonds.

I agree with LD, TL. It could be the light for photographing of course, but the left diamond in the pic is a tad bit out of sync w/the rest of the crowd. If you left off one on each end, you wouldn't have any concerns w/space on your finger. It would look terrific too.

Agreed...how about making it a 5-stone instead of a 7-stone? I'd take off the ones on the far left and far right, and like LD said, definitely make the center larger to fit your stone (maybe 5.5mm if you have to go with increments of 0.5mm).

I'm also thinking that 7 stones would just give you so much finger coverage you'd miss out on the diamonds running down between your fingers. While I like the 5-stone arrangement/selection suggested above, I'm also curious how it would look if you put the yellow stone in the middle, and leave out the largest diamond and the diamond to the far right. I really like how yellow diamonds look with the warmer tones.. but since you say some of them edge towards olive or pink, maybe this alternative line-up wouldn't work.

Because the more diamonds, the better!! :naughty: This is a compromise down from an 8 carat ring I was hoping to make. I honestly don't mind turning it here and there to look at stones, and I have fat fingers (size eight), so I think I'll see most of them.

Thanks to everyone's suggestions. He actually has a five stone setting too that has some melee, but it's incredibly difficult to find a nicely done seven stone setting that will fit diamonds above 2 or 3 mm.

BTW, the diamond color in this photo is all wrong. The pinks and yellows look grey, and they're not, and the diamond on the left is a gorgeous olive color that really deserves to be set, but it looks horrid in my photo. In the sun, and due to some of the fluor, they actually blend in even better because one of the yellows has green fluor and it's slightly greenish yellow out of the sun, but looks putrid in this photo.

He said the setting won't fit them, so I may not even have this as an option anyways, unless perhaps I remove the middle diamond, and find another round that is between 4 and 5mm.

This is his other setting, and I'm sure he can make it to fit 5mm stones, but it is a five stone design.

How about asking Daniel M or another Etsy seller for some ideas? Otherwise I like the 5 stone idea using the middle 5 diamonds, but arrange them by size so the side tapers.

The problem is that I refuse to send colored diamonds in the mail. I just am very antsy about it.

TL,
Just go with your scattered band idea - while the concept is good, the sizing and etc just wouldn't work even with sausage fingers like you claimed.

I understand your concerns, each time I send my stone out for setting I suffer another anxiety attack. So far nothing lost.. touch wood.

Thanks Chrono,
I might still go with that, I'm just worried about how the jeweler will scatter the diamonds about, and I really like this particular configuration of the seven rounds. They're so much much prettier in person, alternating pink and green/yellow color.

When I do ship out a stone, I spend a lot. I don't ship registered, but I ship Priority Express with a tracking number and insurance. It typically gets there, but I cannot put a price on insurance for this parcel without giving off a red flag that something inside is very expensive. I typically don't send stones that are worth more than $500 for that reason.

My local jeweler was able to cut a fuse together parts of two different Stuller settings to make a ring that fit some various sized colored stones for me. I'm attaching a photo below. My jeweler said this route would save me money, as compared to making a custom setting.

What you are looking for is fairly basic, so I'm wondering if your jeweler could do something similar?

If I replace the middle stone with a stone between 4 and 5 mm, then do you guys think the seven stone ring I posted in the link above will fit? At that point, it might be an eternity band, and I don't mind if the stones on the outer edge are tucked under my finger.
