Not much to do with rings, proposals, or weddings - I am curious about remedies for the common cold. :)

I have been icky-yucky-ookie-grossie-sickie with a cold since Saturday and I can''t seem to shake it... Grrrrrr... I have done all of the following to try and cure it:

1) Airborne tablets
2) Flushing the system with LOADS of water
3) Sleep, sleep, and more sleep
4) Nyquil/Dayquil
5) Vitamin load up

I know a cold is one of those things you kind of need to just deal with and get over when your body is ready, but I figured I''d put it out there to ask all of you because I may be missing a good tip.

So hopefully someone can shed light on this to help me get over this horrid illness. Thanks everyone in advance.

Bad colds are the worst. I hope you feel better soon!

Well, it sounds like you''re doing all the right things. Here are a few things I would suggest adding to your already full routine:

- Hot showers (let that water pound on your chest/back and breathe in that steam to help you with that nasty congestion) or hot baths (again, breathe in that steam).
- Tylenol Cold Severe Congestion or Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom... they''re my go-to cold medicines.
- Drink orange juice and tea (decaf... so you can sleep).

Personally, I always crave matzo ball soup or homemade chicken noode soup when I have a cold. Neither of those soups may help... but they sure make me feel better!

Oh GREAT tips!! As soon as I read the steam idea I pulled out the humidifier. And I am about 5 min from jumping into the shower. :) Thank you for those helpful hints. I may have my boyfriend pick me up the tylenol cold meds as well as orange juice. :) Thanks for the well wishes. hehe I''m sure I will get better soon!!

Vick''s Vapor rub at night and during the day. I had horrible congestion a while back and that helped break it up. And BF talked me into putting it on my chest in the morning so it was there all day.

I always like to drink warm tea with lemon and honey. (Try Chamomile at night). I don''t know that these actually "help" with getting rid of the cold but they make you feel a little better at the time.

I also like the Tylenol cold medicines.

Lots of Vitamin C.

Hope you feel better soon!

These are going to be VERY helpful!! ::sniffles::

Erin - I'm sorry you're feeling under the weather, that is rotten.

One other thing I've found that really helps (my DH does this too after seeing it help me) is to load up on fresh fruits and veggies. I don't know if its the extra vitamins and minerals or what, but it really seems to help. I also generally try to clean up my diet a little bit extra when sick - no junk food, really focus on nutritionally "rich" foods even more than normal if that makes sense, and I've really found that it seems to help, not only with getting better sooner but with lessening severity of the symptoms.

One other thing that can give your immune system a boost is moderate exercise. So if you can (i.e. are up to it), try to force yourself to take a nice brisk walk, or ride a bike for 30 minutes, or something else - it shouldn't feel like an intense workout, just enough to get your heart rate up for a little while.

I hope you feel better soon!!

I am so sorry you''re sick and pray you''ll be better very soon!

Hope you are feeling better by now...if not...sleep, sleep, and more sleep is my best advice for a cold remedy! If there''s anything that brings a cold down, to me, it is rest, your body needs to just get through the virus or cold and be done with it. Other than that, lots of fluids, plenty of citrus/water/tomato soup have always worked for me. Again, hope you feel better soon!
