I would like to ask,
is there any remedy for a diamond has a "very slight" abrasion on the crown?
As in, seeing it can''t be covered during setting, is there a way to have it polished out etc?

I know that photos and more detailed info would be helpful, but I''m afraid I don''t have them. It is a vintage stone and has been described as an Si2.

Look forward to your help!

many thanks
AJ.

Yes it can be polished out but if it isn''t eye visible it isn''t worth the cost and risk.
I would want it examined by a professional as a condition of purchase to make sure there are not other issues and to verify that it is actually a diamond(depending on who the dealer is).
Glass, CZ or white sapphire is much more likely to get abraded than a real diamond.

Cheers Strm!
I will definately have someone look at it within the return period.

Ditto Storm, and what else does the seller say about the SI2 clarity?

AJ--one of my new trans has a little chip on the girdle, but it is not eye visible--so I''m leaving it. I thought it would drive me berserk, but it doesn''t haha.

Can''t wait to see what you are up to, my dear.

It may not be possible to polish out the "abrasion", assuming that would be your decision, if it is the result of an inclusion reaching the surface from the interior of the stone. It should be examined carefully at high magnification.

And, as has been mentioned, don''t forget the risk involved.

gary, thankyou for your input.

For further consideration, here is the vendors response when I queried the surface abrasion: (non-technical info edited out).

"I''ve taken a closer look, and here are my findings: 1) No, they are not visible to the naked eye. 2) Yes, they are whats making the clarity SI2.
There is a very small abrasion on the edge of the table facet. It is a surface abrasion, very small. There is a small, clear, hairline fracture within the stone. It''s about a half a mm, and it nearly reaches the surface, but not quite. Its not structurally significant at all. (It looked at first like it was reaching the surface, hence why I had it listed as "2 abrasions"."

Based on this development, what would you guys recommend?
It is an antique stone, ~4.4mm. I''m sorry, I don''t want to give away too much more info due to lurkers etc.
I have asked for further info on the orientation of the "hairline fracture".

Normally I wouldn''t bother with the risk, but it is a very good price.
Does this fracture sound like something I could live with without doing further damage?

As mentioned, there is a return policy.

TIA for your advice!

Sounds like you have it under control if the place is honest and its not 2 outrageous for shipping to return it if needed then go for it.
Get it checked out when you get it.

If the half a mm fracture is enclosed within the stone and not eye visible--sounds good. Same about the visibility of the abrasion.

Good luck AJ!

Thanks Strm and Coats - I wasn''t sure if a fracture like that would mean an immediate no-no.

Cheers!
