Advice/inspo needed: what to do with a pair of 0.4ct each emerald cuts? (Not studs)

Hi all, I just found out that I’ll be receiving a pair of 0.8ctw emerald cut studs as a gift, but I already have a pair of the exact same thing - 0.8ctw emerald cut studs! Unfortunately those studs have already been purchased and will be gifted to me regardless but the gifter is okay with me resetting them into a different piece of jewelry. Selling isn’t an option as I don’t want to hurt any feelings.

I’ll be receiving them in December so I have some time to think about what I want to do with them. Any ideas? I am mostly looking at rings and earrings in that order, either WG or RG. I’m torn between the two as I don’t have daily wear rings in either metal, and I can wear a WG ring with RG jewelry but I feel weird doing the other way round. Looking for either an index finger or middle finger ring. The 2 stones should be somewhat the “focus” of the ring, i.e. I don’t want them to be side stones to a centre stone.

Thanks for your ideas!

Toi et moi ring a la Jackie Kennedy?IMG_9051.jpeg

Bezelled as tassels/dangles on a lariat necklace?
Fabulous cufflinks?
Bezel and set as a drop to your existing EC studs?
Set at right angles in a bangle?
Set singly EW as stacking rings, one in WG, the other in RG?

Thank you for all the ideas!

I think the stones are too small for the Jackie Kennedy style, but I do think either a toi et moi or two rings are the way to go. I never thought of two rings! What a great idea!

I wear my existing 0.8ctw in my second piercing, so the drop wouldn't work. My lobes are enormous, and they're too small to have any presence on my ear.

Cufflinks wouldn't work for me as I don't wear shirts :D

I do like the idea of setting them at right angles - but in a ring, instead of a bangle perhaps! I feel like they don't have enough presence as a bangle, I like my jewelry chunky.

I just had a thought - what about a Tiffany T type style, but with single pieces instead of pave?

Side stones in a 3-stone ring, with an EC diamond or CS?

I would go for a neon pink stone like a Spinal.

DK :))

While that’s a lovely classic idea, I would need the ECs to be the focus of this piece so as to not offend the giver, so side stones won’t work :(

A by-pass ring as already suggested?

Add a halo around each stone to increase finger coverage perhaps?

DK :))

I like the idea of a halo!

What do you think of these options for ECs:

Though this might be too curvy?

This is the T ring - I was thinking of the two ECs in the vertical position, and using either small baguettes or pave to extend the length while maintaining the width, and then using the same baguettes/pave to make the “leg” of the T?

Put a halo around one of the stones and not the other, to get a size differential?

I am normally a plain shank girl, a halo around each stone and a paved shank would be too much for my own liking.

I like the simplicity of the second one down, possibly setting the stones and halos at an angle rather than horizontal.

The T ring which is like a cuff for the finger, should work too with halos around the stones. However, it depends on the size of the Emeralds and your finger size.

If you finger is slender and small size, then there may not be enough room for a cuff ring IMHO.

DK :))

I don’t have very slim fingers because I want this ring for my middle finger or my index! I think my size for those fingers is either US7-7.5. So there should be enough space to play with.

I think the curvy shank might not work with the emerald cuts. A more geometric design is probably better.

I think an angled simple bypass ring or a T-style ring are the frontrunners for now, thank you!

Another cuff option, these are much smaller than those you will be receiving…
I actually never take the cuff off, I think because the stones are set horizontally they don’t snag on sleeves, etc.

I just came across this two-stone ring on Insta -- it dates to the 1930s/1940s per @chelseagirl.nyc -- the ring sold already but I'm linking to the stories for more images -- your two emerald-cuts would look awesome in a variation of this design!

Thank you for the inspo! Very interesting! It’s not really my style, I like more modern interpretations, but I think a milgrain bezel around each stone set in the NS position could be an idea worth exploring :D

That’s a cool cuff, I didn’t think a bangle could work with small stones but that’s a cool idea, I like it. And a similar ring could also work, if I think about it! Thanks!

I would have suggested a bypass ring as well. But two separate stacking rings in each metal color is a good idea too. I'd probably put the stones E/W if I were doing that and bezel or flush set them.

I was also going to suggest a two stone ring or a bracelet

For the stacking rings though, the more I think about it, the more I wish there was a third stone so I would’ve gotten a YG ring too. I could just buy a matching stone and do that, but I wonder if the giver would be offended (she’s a bit touchy, it’s a long story).

Do you have any specific ideas or designs for the bypass? Any of the earlier pictured ones you like?

Thank you! Any inspo pics in particular, or anything pictured so far that you really like?

I don't because you want a modern styled ring and what I have saved are all antique styles. Neither of mine are what I would consider modern. I assume you want something a bit angular since you mentioned that one of the ones above are too curvy.
But I do like the idea of lining the stones lined up like this if you could do it without the pave and perhaps tweak the band some to make it a bit wider and more "square" or angular as you like.

Actually no I really like this the way it is! Thank you!!

This doesn’t read curvy to me, more geometric. I think it actually looks really cool. Definitely one to consider!

Hi!
What about a Canturi style ring? I would add small baguette and carré diamonds.

Oh that is gorgeous :kiss2: though I already have a broad diamond ring/band. And I’m concerned the two diamonds might get lost in the weave pattern… will have to work out this concept with my jeweler. If I had a few more stones I can totally see myself doing this!

What about enhancer drops for your mrb studs?

Two thoughts:

- Why not keep the new earrings as they are, and re-set your old ones as whatever you want - such as sidestones to a 3-stone EC ring? Then there will be no "restrictions" on them having to be the focus of attention

- How about a 3-stone EC ring in which the centre stone honours the giver in some way - their birthstone, favourite gem, favourite colour, something that reminds you of them.

Anything else feels like you're settling and trying to shoehorn them into a style you don't really want. I might be wrong though.

What about an open cuff ring a la @Pomelo ?

I like the idea, I just wonder if it’s practical as I like to wear multiple rings and I’m afraid it’ll get damaged if it’s between the fingers. But thanks for the suggestion!

Unfortunately my studs are too big for a 40pt drop - it would look funny :/ thank you for the suggestion though!

Omg how did I not think of that! That is a brilliant idea!!

You’re right - I was discussing it with my mom and she was like “it sounds like you’re trying to find a way to use up the stones rather than use them in a way you actually want” and I was like yeah, I kind of am. Which sucks, because it’s a really generous gift, but if I’d been given a choice it’s absolutely not what I would’ve gone for. And I know that it isn’t cheap, and I don’t want to sound ungrateful but ugh this is why I don’t like people buying me things without asking me first :(

But if they’re a similar quality to my existing studs, I have no qualms in repurposing my own studs! I can even sit on the project for a while - until I buy whatever stones I’d need for this project!

Sometimes you need someone to point out the obvious haha - thank you!

Haha glad to help :))I immediately got a sense of the person who gave them to you (generous but slightly fragile ego right...?)

Yup, got it in one! I was already feeling a tiny bit iffy about the resetting in the first place so I wouldn’t offend them. We don’t meet super often - just a couple times a year, so I guess they don’t know about or never noticed my own studs. But now I can guilt free gush over them, immediately wear them, and relax knowing I haven’t ruffled any feathers.
