Advice needed: custom project process

Good morning! I have a quick question for those of you that have complete custom ring projects: How often (if at all) is it appropriate to check on the status of production? Is once every 1-2 weeks too much? From reading here, I understand that completion dates often aren’t firm when it comes to creating. I want to avoid being lost in the shuffle, but I don’t want to cause stress! Thanks in advance for any advice!

It depends on the designer and project, there’s no exact “science” to this. I think checking in every week might be excessive if you expect at least 6-10 week turnaround which seems standard. Has your designer set a timeline estimate?

The designers I’ve worked with tend to work quickly, so if I don’t hear anything for about 3 weeks, I’ll check in.

But if you are sitting at the edge of your seat and a deadline was missed, no harm in reaching out IMO. You’re the paying customer.

No need to check-in if your designer/vendor said 6 weeks and you are on week 2. I would probably wait until week 5 to check that
we are on schedule or may even wait until the 6 weeks are up.

I know custom projects can be anxiety-producing. Part of it is just a waiting game, best of luck on your final result!

Personally once a CAD or design is approved I don't reach out until the originally promised date has passed.

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I don’t have a good feel for what is normal/expected. It’s nice to have the benefit of others’ experience to draw from.
