Hi,

I''m new to the world of diamonds and would like to get some opinions on the diamond below. I''m a little concerned about the strong fluorescence, but other than that, it seems like a good diamond - but as I said, this is my first diamond purchase. I haven''t had a chance to see the diamond in person, so any additional information I should be requesting would be helpful. Its for an engagement ring that will be a white gold solitaire. Also, the price is $31,000 - does that seem reasonable?

Thank you for your help.

Stats:
Weight: 2.61 ct
Color: H
Clarity: VVS1
Cut: Excellent (GIA) or 1.2 on HCA
Depth: 60.5%
Table: 57%
Crown Angle: 34.5
Pavillion Angle: 40.8
Measurements: 8.89 x 8.95 x 5.40 mm
Fl: Strong Blue
Symmetry: Excellent
Polish: Excellent

Could be a winner! Can you get actual photos or video of the stone? I''d ask the vendor if the fluor causes any visual issues. I like fluor as long as there is no milkiness in sunlight. I think the price is fine.

Welcome,

It looks like a well cut diamond, is it with an online vendor? The SB fluorescence is rarely a problem but check with the seller to see if it makes the diamond cloudy in some lighting, this is rare however. Also you could drop the clarity to VS if you wished and still have a very clean diamond, but this is a personal preference. If the diamond is with an online vendor, an Idealscope image is always good to confirm the numbers, you could ask the vendor if they could provide one.

The diamond is on bluenile and unfortunately they don''t have much additional information. They just say that a triple excellent GIA rating makes for a beautiful stone. Luckily this was only of their in-house diamonds and they had it in front of them when we talked. Even with the strong fluoresence, they said there was no milky color in sunlight. They have a decent return policy, but its tough spending $31k plus setting without seeing it first.

well, you could probably spend less if that would make you feel better.

That''s what return policies are for! I looked at 3 diamonds and sent them back before choosing my anniversary ring diamond! That stone is probably gorgeous! the closest thing to it that I can find is this:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-VVS1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1107198.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131

So I''d say that $31,000 is not a bad price considering your stone is larger! (It''ll have some discount because of the florescence, but as long as there is no effect on the stone, I''d go for it!)
