Advice on Bi Color Sapphire for Pendant?

I’m new to sapphires, and would love to buy one for a necklace pendant.

I’m hoping for a bi color, but would be open to other colors.

I’d prefer round, pear, trillion, or hexagon shaped, but am open to other shapes.

I want something in the .75ct to 1.25ct range. I am OK with inclusions (including visible inclusions), depending on placement/severity. I’m OK with heat treatment.

I would love to spend $500 or less on the stone, but could go higher if necessary (I’m not at all familiar with sapphire pricing so I know no idea if $500 is reasonable or far too low for what I’m asking for).

I was hoping to get some help finding good stones! It would be set in either Yellow Gold or Rose Gold depending on the stones coloring.

Thank you!

Hmm, I must be looking at the colors wrong on the one I saw then. Or perhaps it’s Photoshopped? Regardless, I’m open to most colors except for deep blue.

Type parti sapphire in to Etsy's search bar, there are many there

If you're willing to stretch the budget...
They may also have stones not listed, or can find them.

I really like this one. It’s a .81ct (7.06 x 5.17 x 3.35) Intense Yellowish Orange, Eye Clean. It has been heat treated.

It’s not Bi Color, but I am a big fan of the Yellowish orange color it has.

It’s for sale for $178, which makes me wonder if there’s something wrong with it that I’m missing?

Interesting, I’ve looked at Etsy and didn’t see many. I was also concerned about purchasing from Etsy. I’ve bought jewelry on there before, but only from sellers that have come specifically recommended to me.

The website you listed has some gorgeous stones! Definitely worth spending more than originally intended to purchase from them.

I've had good luck with Etsy. I've bought some pretty great stones/jewelry from the platform. Just make you use CC/Paypal and buy from vendors with good feedback/return policies.
I found at least 13 pages just when putting in parti sapphire. I'm sure different choices would come up if you put in bi-colored.
Adamant comes recommended from other's experience on this board.

I bet my issue was that I tried “bi color sapphire pendant” and “parti sapphire pendant” instead of searching for just parti or bi color sapphire. I had originally hoped I could get everything in one place, but I’m now realizing I’ll likely have to buy the sapphire and pendant separately and then take them to the jeweler to be set.

The “problem” with sapphires is that they are and can be treated with beryllium diffusion to enhance the colour. This is considered an invasive treatment and significantly reduces the value of the sapphire.
The report for this particular sapphire with Natural Sapphire Company states the sapphire has NOT been FTIR tested. This is the test which can detect beryllium diffusion so it’s possible that this sapphire is BE treated.
The price is likely reflective of that possibility.

Thank you, this is very helpful and not something I was aware of!

There is an Australian eBay seller (Tasmania) I follow who has a lovely selection of bi coloured sapphires. His prices are very reasonable. The shop name is splendidspecimens.
this one is my pick, $890 Aust so $600 ish US. It’s .80 carat but is exceptional colours and cut.

I looked at them, and they have amazing stones! I’m definitely going to go with one of theirs.

Hi Maisie2, I highly recommend Earth's Treasury - I've got 3 stones from them. They are very beautiful and cut so well. I have a few tips though - know that each stone's measurements will differ even if same shape and carat weight. Sapphires are denser than diamonds so the .75ct weight you mentioned won't go as far for sapphires if you're comparing to diamonds or something (I don't know if you were, but I made that mistake in the beginning). Best to look at face-up length/width measurements instead to compare size differences rather than focusing on carat weight.

Also take advantage of their video service, don't be shy, and if you do decide to purchase, they have a great no-risk return policy that's very generous. In my experience the stones tend to look darker in real life/in person compared to videos/photos. Lastly, prices fluctuate a lot from less than $1k/ct to $2k+/ct. You can find good deals with stones that have slight inclusions but are not too bad in the hand. Those usually have more budget-friendly prices. Good luck!

This is all fantastic advice! As far as carat weigh/dimensions go, I did look at measurements and think the measurements of a .75ct to 1.25ct are in the range I’d like. I want something visible, but small enough to be comfortable and suited for daily wear. Even so, I’ll keep in mind to pay more attention to measurements than carat weight.

I actually spoke to someone about Earth’s Treasury because I wanted to find out if any of their stones are treated and if it’s listed anywhere, and they were very helpful and told me they only use heat treatment, if any! Definitely a company I’m happy to purchase from. I’m glad to hear that you’ve been happy with all of your purchases from them!
