I can't get this stone out of my head and I got a really good price on my e ring reset that I'm thinking of buying it. What do you guys think? For some reason I feel it looks silky almost, which I don't want, but I feel like maybe my eyes are playing tricks. Do you think his pics are accurate? Is the color as saturated as it seems? Any other thoughts for or against the purchase?

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

Is it unheated? Why not ask B about the silkiness? He's a very upfront and honest vendor who tells you as he sees it. He's dissuaded me from several of his stones knowing that I don't like dark toned stones.

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

Oh sorry its heated. But I'm sure the price reflects that and he's willing to come down a little. Do you see any sleepiness to it or is it my eyes. What do you think of it in general. I like the red and purple though it.

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

Niel,
Are you a "cut nut" or a good "native" cut is good enough for you? There are minor cut issues that some will be able to overlook but precision cut lovers might not be able to handle it. Colour-wise, I love it. B will sometimes take additional pictures for you. Don't forget to inquire about bowties! And yes, it looks a touch sleepy, not totally transparent.

I'm not too picky about CS cuts I've noticed. I think I see a slight window but it doesn't bother me. I love the color a lot but I think I might have to pass if it is sleepy. I really hope he comes back saying no :?

And good call! silly me forgot about CS bowties. im not in my element over here.

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

He says no sleepiness or hasiness to speak of. Asked for a few other photos if he had some and about the bowtie.

Thank goodness there is no haze. I'm really thinking about this one.

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

I hope this sapphire works out for you. :appl:

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

Thanks chrono. What I like about diamonds and RT there is more objective right and wrong choices. And people often steer you in one direction or another. This sub forum I feel is more hands off. "How do you feel" "what do you think" responses. I get it sense colored stones are a different animal, but it makes me feel uncertain without someone telling me yes or no, or if this stone is good compared to relative industry standards

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

Although there are trade preferred colours, not everyone likes the same thing, hence CS seems more hands off. A person likes what he / she likes and nobody can say otherwise. There really isn't any right or wrong but if a person wants a richly coloured blue and posts a grayish blue, the CSers will say that's not the right stone for the OP.

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

I get what you're saying.

But in terms of color saturation, do you think its rich? You're eyes are more finely tuned. I don't see any greying myself but is there some I'm missing?

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

I think this sapphire is well saturated but I suspect a light but noticeable bowtie which will look like a band across the centre.

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

That is what makes coloured stones fun, in my opinion. Each of us have our own parameters and preferences. We can tell you what we see but, in the end, it is up to you and what you like.

Is that a Winza stone?

What is that?

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

Corundum from the Winza area in Africa, are typically red with some hints of blue, sometimes, even an area of distinct blue. Winza is well known for clean and untreated rubies.

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

Oh no. He says Sri Lanka

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

I wouldn't sweat a Sri Lanka origin. They produce lots of lovely gems there.

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

I really like it. Especially if it has that hint of blue.

Have you emailed him and does he respond quickly? I've been emailing him and he hasn't responded to my last two emails... It seems hit or miss. Sometimes he responds really fast or not at all which makes me worried he isn't getting them but I don't want to be bothering him either.

Yeah he responds fairly quickly to me, the last email I shot I haven't gotten a response. But I asked for photos and it was late last night so I'm sure he just hasn't gotten to it. I know the feeling though I tried to contact a few well known vendors here and got no response back. Its like, do I try again or am I getting the brush off :?

hmmmm. I sent one about a day and a half ago... I will wait a little longer. Maybe send another tomorrow if he doesn't respond.

Re: Advice on magenta sapphire.

Personally, I love the stone. I've asked him about it, and debated, and debated, and debated.

I decided that it wasn't for me due to the size. If it was bigger--it would be mine!

He's a great guy to deal with...please post pics if you buy the stone so I can see what I should have bought. Ha ha!
