Advice On Sapphire Setting (Engagement Ring)

I love nice saturated sapphires with some crisp white diamonds. Either 2 side stones, a halo or halo and shank. I seem to be partial to halos. Here are some ideas I got from looking online. If you need to go custom, I always see David Klass, Maytal Hannah or Daniel M mentioned on PS. That is where I got these images from.

Well... the first question should be, what does the intended wearer like? Is it you, or is it for your fiance? It's important for an engagement ring to be in the style that the wearer will enjoy. If it were me, for example, I'd want it as a solitaire or maybe a three-stone. I don't like wearing halos. But that doesn't mean the sapphire won't look absolutely gorgeous in a halo as well!

Im so happy that you pulled the trigger on this stone! It’s gorgeous! Personally, I would either halo it or do a solitaire with a pave band. As stated above; what does the intended wearer want? That’s what truly matters.

that cut is so unique and cool. i could see it in a bezel (with or w/o pave or engraving on the band) or a small or hidden diamond halo, or a sapphire halo, or double halo, etc.

i think a chunky halo or largish sidestones could distract from the center, depending on the design

It’s a beautiful stone, congratulations! I am pragmatic so always think about durability versus the lifestyle of the wearer. If it is something what will be always worn, maybe a half or full bezel? I was captivated by this setting I found on David Klass Instagram page over the weekend. It’s not for everyone but very unique.

Then there is the best of both worlds with a bezel and unique halo. Personally I am not a huge fan of the heavy shank but love the shape of the halo.

Based on her pinterest, the decision is between dainty side diamonds or soltaire

My vote is for side diamonds...they will make that beautiful blue really pop and add some extra sparkle and finger coverage.

This one actually belongs to a PSer! It's my main inspiration for the next ring I'm going to have made. Have you seen the side profile?

WOW, thanks for adding this! Look how different it is without the antiquing but beautiful both ways. Do you happen to remember the PS’er? I would love to know more about the ring.

I like the trillions best!

This is the one single ring I've stalked all over PS, so... yeah.

You only need one link - the thread in which the ring was sold by the original owner to the current one. It contains the link to the thread about the ring, which in turn contains the links to the threads about buying the sapphire and choosing the setting for it.

 The incomparable @Cerulean was the original owner and designer of that fabulous mounting and it was adopted the lovely @ilovegemstones where it is very happy and well loved.
This is one of my 'grail' stones with color to make you cry! Isn't it something?!

I think something sleek and tapered would be a beautiful offset to that concave beauty. Something to compliment and not compete. There are bullet, baguette, emeralds and french/carre cuts. There are more rounded shapes like rounds, half moons, ovals or pears. I think another snoop on her Pinterest to see exactly what the rings look like will help. Copy the images and post them here.
There are many designs and if there is something particular she likes then we'll need more information.

here is her pinterest... thank you so much for all youthe input.

Check out CVB designs. Your girlfriend pinned one of her pieces. Your stone on one of Caysie’s settings would be insane. https://instagram.com/cvb.inspired.design?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Well, two things become very apparent from looking at her inspo pics...

1. She clearly prefers this overall shape, regardless of if it's accomplished through side stones or metal alone:

2. She has a clear preference for moody green/teal stones. Most people without experience don't know that their gorgeous dark stone will only be gorgeously dark in bright light and near-black in many other scenarios, and once they learn, their preferences change. The blue you've selected will perform a lot better overall and I think it's a better choice, but just keep it in mind.

All in all, I'd suggest you stick with the shape she seems to favour most. There are many classic designs that utilise delicate side stones to achieve it. And do not, under any circumstances, set the stone e/w.

These are my favourite ring designs for an oval CS:

And of course the classic 3-stone, with other round or pear side stones.

Pretty stone BTW, and I would love to see the finished ring, whatever you'll decide.

DK :))

We've talked a lot about color and she definitely prefers blue. We also went to check out some in person and I think the performance of very dark stones became clear. I think indoors this blue will look nice and dark and outdoors it'll shine. She told me I'm on my own for choosing the rest haha so I'm here!

Also, what is "e/w"

where the oval is longest along the east/west axis

I think a pair of diamond traps on the sides would make it smokin hot.

Your lady wants threes and she gravitates towards round side stones. So any of her examples with three rounds, two little rounds and a pear, or trillion etc.
CvB or David Klass could build you something amazing.
CvB will take your idea and design around it.
Dklass has a lady named Amy who handles design and she would do the same.
Whomever you choose, let them see her ring picks- it will help immensely.
I'm excited for you, the sapphire is amazing and a rarer cut- it's going to be insanely beautiful when done!

I reached out to both of them--thank you very very much!
