Advice on selling an WF ACA engagement ring

Hi friends

I am in the process of going through a divorce and will be selling my WF ACA diamond ring, however I have never sold something worth so much. I would like to list it here as opposed to going to a pawn shop here in Vegas but I don't even know where to begin. Do you take payment first? How do you accept payment? Do you ship it and insure it? It seems so tricky and I'm really looking for some feedback.

Thank you and if this is the wrong location, please feel free to move it or let me know.

Sorry to hear about your divorce. I myself haven’t sold anything here, but I do know WF ACA’s are well loved here, so you shouldn’t have a problem selling. If it’s 2+ carets you may want to go through a third party for protection … maybe Jewels by Grace? Depending on when the diamond was purchased, you could always use WF’s trade in program and purchase a diamond for yourself and have them set it in a pendant… Just a thought

Thanks for the suggestions. It’s 1.6 carats and I already contacted them about buying it back, I do not want to upgrade and they cannot extend an offer right now. I hadn’t considered jewel by grace. It’s more the logistics I’m worried about with selling

I've offered to go through a jeweler for shipping (e.g David klass). That way I pay him for shipping and get to be protected by his insurance.

And yes, payment first then you ship

There is the preloved forum here on PS. Not sure how other sellers have handled shipping/payment but you could probably post a question there. I would imagine you would receive the payment first and there is a bit of a trust issue in selling. Listing it on consignment will require a fee to be paid to the company that lists it.

I think some people also may use an appraiser as a middleman. I think Neil Beaty has been suggested in other threads. Others may know more about how this is done.

I used Neil Beaty as a purchaser buying pre-loved Whiteflash ACA studs. I recommend him and it certainly helped my peace of mind, and I think the seller’s as well. It did prolong the process as you have to wait for the diamond to ship to him, you do have to pay him for an appraisal as a part of the escrow service, and then he waits until payment from the buyer clears (the buyer sends the money to him, he sends it to the seller) and then he ships to the buyer. The extra time didn’t bother me as I knew everything was safe and secure, and I was purchasing from someone I didn’t know!
The appraisal is useful for the buyer because it helps you add the item to your insurance policy. As I recall, I think I split the cost of the shipping and the insurance with the seller, but I paid for the appraisal since using the escrow service was at my request and the appraisal was more useful to me than to her.

That's a super smart way for both buyer and seller to feel comfortable

Thank you for the example and feedback. Perhaps I will reach out, seems like a more secure way of selling. I appreciate the information.

You might also consider having Neil or someone else take a look at the stone and confirm its condition.

I could do that, its only a year or so old and I haven't worn it the last 6 months but not a bad idea. Thank you.

I've bought and sold numerous times, and always via loupetroop since the folk there are almost always Pricescopers. Typically if it's a Pricescoper with a lot of history here and well known, it reassures me as a buyer. As a seller it's less risk as it's typically payment first, but you may find people a little hesitant if you don't have a strong post history here and the item is on the pricier side. I usually use paypal for both buying and selling, and will opt for insurance.

I agree that going through a trusted vendor is helpful for trust and safety. Best of luck with the sale.

I get it. But any buyer who buys your ACA is going to want to make sure it’s in perfect condition and that it is what you say it is. A year or 10 years - most on PS would recommend the diamond get checked out. I’m just suggesting it to maximize your sale’s price!

This. BC diamonds are not impervious to damage.

OP
Others will comment how to sell the diamond. In regards to shipping, USPS, Registered Mail insures up to $50,000. You follow their shipping instructions. Registred Mail is slow, but it gets there and you have their insurance.
