Advice on selling man's sapphire ring on LoupeTroop

Hoping for some wisdom! I need to sell a man's cabochon sapphire ring in the low-to-mid four figure range and was planning to use LoupeTroop. I've used eBay a bunch as a seller but I'd prefer to avoid it for jewelry, based on my past experiences.

Is there an established purchase and payment protocol for LoupeTroop or is it all done through email directly with the buyer, etc? Do folks generally use PayPal? And it looks like most sellers use a no-return policy for private-party sales.

Anyone have success on that forum or have any tips for a first-time user? Thanks!

Hi LilAlex: Unfortunately, this forum is not a sales forum and discussion of items for sale is prohibited. However, your questions are totally fine to ask on the Preloved page in the PriceScope Cafe section. If I were you, I'd ask the Mods to move this thread to that section by clicking the "Report Concern" button and explaining that you posted this in the wrong area and would like it moved. Good luck with the sale!

Didn't think I could make it any more obvious that I'm not selling this to PS members and this is not a discussion of an item for sale. I don't even describe the item. I only say it's a sapphire because I know there are diamond-y sites and that's specifically not what I'm looking for (i.e., e-ring shoppers).

I've seen thousands of references on this forum to selling outside PS, along with countless direct links to items for sale. I've seen a lot of advice that one should sell an item on LoupeTroop after it's been well-described (with photos) on PS, and presumably it then shows up there. I am just asking for advice from other PS who may have sold colored stones on LoupeTroop. I don't think anyone is going to make me a sweet private offer for a "man's ring with a sapphire in it." This is not an ad. And it is not a thinly disguised ad. Or even a cleverly disguised ad.

Yes, you should sell on loupetroop or diamond bistro. Botj are free to post on, and PayPal is the payment of choice for legit buyers. Beware that there are definitely scammers out there, but they are usually obvious and make weird excuses for why pp won't work for them, etc.

I've sold and purchased items with no problem. If it's a non PSer I would probably ask to pay via normal pp rather than friends and family (to assure buyer protection). But from pS users I feel fine buying with FF.

Hi, yes unfortunately there are scammers everywhere.
PayPal is the preferred payment method but obviously PayPal has the facility for “not as described” returns and refund of money so a “no returns” wording is really just for change of mind. Unless the “friends and family” function is used. For items keenly priced and of low value, most buyers are ok with this as the PayPal fees around around 3% to the seller.
A good seller in my opinion offers returns (shipping at the buyers expense) if the buyer is unhappy with their purchase. With good photos, accurate descriptions and a lab report, returns aren’t usually common.
Anything more than a couple of hundred dollars really needs a lab report due to the vast numbers and incredibly “natural” looking sapphires out there. There is a vast difference in price between “unheated, origin stated’ sapphires and “heated with evidence of fillers”.
You can share “news” of your listing under “PS Pre loved jewels” as many PSers read this forum.

My thanks to you both for the details and the great suggestions. I have an AGL report, unheated, but no origin, and I have decent photos. I guess I'll give it a shot!
