Advice on turning my ering into a pendant

Hello all!

Long story short, my sapphire engagement ring is no longer functional as a ring. The shank is slowly warping and because of resizing and a plating/unplating nightmare (all done by the jeweler's bench) I'm loosing melee faster than I can count. After months of the ring sitting in my jewelry box and getting over the desire to throw it down the garbage disposal out of frustration and a little heart break, I've decided to turn it into a pendant.

What sort of pendant setting would best suit my ring? See pics below. It's a 3.15 ct natural untreated sapphire.

something like this? http://www.jamesallen.com/pendants/design-your-own-pendant/18k-white-gold-pave-set-frame-pendant-setting-item-17021

or like this? http://www.jamesallen.com/pendants/design-your-own-pendant/18k-white-gold-4-prong-wire-basket-solitaire-pendant-setting-item-17003

Thank you so very much!!!

I'm so sorry you are having problems with your ring. Are you losing mele out of the halo or just the shank?

I really like that first setting with the halo. I was wondering if they could remove the shank from your ring and turn it into
a pendant. Might be worth talking to a jeweler to see if its possible.

Hi tyty333! I'm only losing melee in the shank. My hope was to do just as you suggest, remove the shank and keep the halo.

Do you, or anyone else, have a recommended bench in NYC or Chapel Hill, NC for this kind of work?

Thanks!

So you have crappy pave. I don't recommend you buy more of it.

You need to save up and buy something good quality.

I recommend looking at Beverly K. And Engagement Rings Direct.

Gypsy, thanks for the recommendations. I'm definitely not doing pave in my upgrade, but I am in the market for an OEC so I hope to be able to pick your brain in a few weeks when I'm closer to buying.

It's such a shame that I was lead so far astray by a brand name reputable jeweler who failed to right their wrong, but the whole experience taught me that you have to be your own advocate when buying jewelry. Oh how I wish I had known about this site in 2012...

I'd get a new setting altogether. Like Gypsy, I like Beverley K and I'd get ideas for pendants from Joe Escobar's site. ERD is a good choice to make it if you want to go custom. Oh, and another place that makes beautiful pendants is Hunt Country Jewelers.

Thanks Diamondseeker2006. My guess is I would have to go custom since rose cuts just aren't all that common. If nothing in my current setting is salvageable then I think I would probably put this project on hold for a while.

The upgrade I mentioned in my previous post is an upgrade engagement ring, not an upgraded pendant setting, and quite frankly I would rather put any significant amount of money towards my new engagement ring   . When the time comes for the pendant I will certainly contact the vendors you recommended.

Well, you have nothing to lose, really, to see if a bench jeweler can take off the shank and even up the head of the current ring to lie flat and add a bail. At least you could wear it temporarily. But honestly, I'd probably set a 3 ct sapphire in another ring to wear on your right hand after you finish your OEC project.

Thanks Diamondseeker2006! I'll run it past a bench I've used in the past.
